🐱 #ProjectJustYoga11 🐶 Officially into our final week of poses for the month! Tomorrow for Day 15: Butterfly Pose Start in Staff Pose (Dandasana). If you find it is difficult to sit up straight in Staff Pose, elevate your hips slightly by placing a soft foam block or blanket under your sit bones. On an exhalation, bend your knees and bring the soles of your feet together to touch. Bring your heels as close to your pelvis as you can without feeling pressure or pain in your knees. Push the outer edges of your feet firmly into the floor and wrap your hands around your feet or ankles. With the pelvis in a neutral position, beging to open the groins by gently working the outer knees towards the floor. Never force your knees down. Stay here, or start to lean your torso forward, ensuring that your spine remains long and neutral by bending from the hip joints as opposed to the waistline. Take 5-10 deep breaths. To exit the pose, draw your knees towards one another, extend your legs and return to Staff Pose To Modify: allow your feet to remain further away from the body, creating more space and taking pressure off the knees and groin. If you need more support, place blocks or folded blankets under the knees. . . 🐱 #ProjectJustYoga11 🐶 Day 14: Frog Pose Rather than Frog on the stomach while pulling the feet towards the ribs, I like to modify with the gentler Downward Facing Frog. From Table pose, walk the knees out to the sides as wide as comfortable. Bring the ankles directly behind the knees with the feet turned out towards the side. I also like to press my feet against the wall to help with alignment. Bring the elbows and forearms on to the floor with the palms flat on the floor or with the palms pressed together. Slowly exhale pressing the hips towards the back wall until you feel a deep stretch in the hips and inner thighs. Breathe and hold for 3-6 breaths. To release: rock the hips forward and either bring the palms under the shoulders and press back up into Table pose, or walk the arms forward lowering the hips and whole body flat on the floor. . . Day 14: Frog Pose

🐱 #ProjectJustYoga11 🐶 Day 13: Horse Pose ***I& #039 ;m going to be showing modifications plus full poses for odd days this week!*** Horse pose is challenging if, like me, you have tight hips and uncooperative knees, so LISTEN to your body and modify as needed in whatever way you feel comfortable! First, for your modification/prep pose, I suggest Malasana (deep yogic squat) to help open and strengthen the hips. Swipe for my (still modified) attempt at the real deal, and here are full pose instructions: From mountain pose, one foot is placed atop the opposite thigh as in half lotus pose. The knee of the standing leg bends, and the other knee is placed on the mat next to the standing foot (my modification is to simply bring my standing knee to the ground while remaining in half lotus). The arms raise with the forearms pointing up, and they wrap around each other so the elbows fit together and the palms meet. This is repeated on the opposite side. Horse pose gets its name from the fact that the body resembles the face of a horse in this posture. It may also be referred to by its Sanskrit name, vatayanasana (feel free to google to get a better shot of the full pose :) ). . . 🐱 #ProjectJustYoga11 🐶 Day 12: Monkey Pose If Hanumanadana (Monkey pose or full split) is not in your practice, join me in a low lunge (Anjaneyasana) to open and strengthen the hips as a preparation pose. Make sure to practice both sides! From Downward-Facing Dog, exhale and step your right foot forward between your hands, aligning the right knee over the heel. Then lower your left knee to the floor and, keeping the right knee fixed in place, slide the left back until you feel a comfortable stretch in the left front thigh and groin. A full scorpion is not for the faint of heart, so if its not in your practice I encourage you to strengthen your upper body and core with some Dolphin pose variations! Start in Dolphin pose, with heels reaching toward the floor. As you inhale, come up on the toes. This will cause the shoulders and upper body to become more vertical. Again, your balance is still challenged as you focus on proper posture in your torso. Work on building strength by gently leaning forward, engaging your core, then rocking back towards a squat. Continue like this leaning forward a little more and feeling more weight in your hands and upper body each time. You can place your hands on the floor and gently walk them further away, or bring your forearms to a block and move the block further away every few breaths as you ease into the stretch as far as is comfortable. The important part is keeping your back flat, and toes and kneecaps pointing straight up rather than rolling forward. .
