Respect, @rmorrison— and congrats! #femalefilmmakerfriday #Repost @rmorrison There’s a common misconception that likens pregnancy to some kind of disability— the idea that women who are pregnant shouldn’t be active and can’t go about their normal lives... While no two pregnancies are the same, I just want to say that for many to most women this isn’t the case at all. I just wrapped a feature #againstallenemies at 8+ months pregnant. Now I’m on to a commercial and I plan to keep shooting for as long as anyone will hire me knowing in a few weeks I may have to replace myself if I go into labor on set... the point is I am NOT a superhero. I am just going about my life doing the thing that I love for as long as I can because the more I work before baby the longer I can take off after. Which should also be MY choice and no one else’s. Physically speaking I could have gone back to work within a week of having my son. At the time, I lost many jobs because people were nervous to hire me so soon after the birth but again I say this should be left up to us. Pregnancy and motherhood in general is not a disadvantage and the craft doesn’t suffer as a result. If anything the added experience and enhanced empathy has made me a better cinematographer and filmmaker. That’s all. Happy Friday! #femalefilmmakerfriday #shootfilm #cseries #panavisionofficial 📷 by @loganwhitephoto

I apologize for this messiness. Earlier today I thought I was ready to post something else, but I am not. I am still heart sick over the murder of Nia Wilson and it feels wrong to post something else so soon. All my love and respect for everyone I mentioned in my deleted post stands- but I want to hold the space for Nia for longer. Again, I’m sorry.

The murder of Nia Wilson- may she rest in the power and peace she was denied here- is unspeakable AND MUST NOT be met with silence.  She is not a hash tag; she was a black woman and she was murdered in cold blood by a white man. White people- including me, including you- must take into the marrow of our privileged bones the truth that ALL black people fear for their lives DAILY in America and have done so for GENERATIONS.  White people DO NOT have equivalence for this fear of violence. Given those givens, we must ask our (white)selves- how “decent” are we really?  Not in our intent, but in our actions?  In our lack of action? Peace and prayers and JUSTICE for Nia and the Wilson family xx Note: the comments for this post are closed. #blacklivesmatter #antiracist #noexcuse #sayhername #earntherighttosayhername

POSE on FX is my new favorite show. Two episodes ago the always excellent Billy Porter left my jaw on the floor with his performance, one of the best I have ever seen on TV- happily I can’t get it out of my mind. He stands out amongst an inspiring and revelatory cast. Do yourself a favor- see what really makes America great and tune in. A note: the LGBTTQQIAAP community is beautiful, loved, worthy and my family. I only welcome words of love and support to them. If you do not yet possess any, offer your silence.

Hey, This has been on my mind all weekend. I posted something last week that was intended to be about communicating from a place of peace and was surprised and challenged by some of the responses. I personally believe you fight fire (anger, hate) with water (compassion and peace), HOWEVER it was a wake up call that my ability to choose peace safely has a great deal to do with my privilege. I want to make it clear that there is not equivalence between oppression and the language used to stand up to oppression. Thank you to those who were respectful in how you kept me in check- I hear you. Peace does not equal silence or neutrality. Peace xx

Hey! I was going to post something about this topic but then Rashida Jones said it better (of course) Whoever you voted for- ugly, violent words are the same in blue or red. Peace xx #Regram from @rashidajones: Also, it’s #NationalSunglassesDay, which is a perfect time to talk more about compassion. I was lucky enough to see Pema Chodron and Gregg Boyle in conversation last weekend and they talked about the notion of vicinity. How compassion and kinship and REAL change comes from connecting one-on-one with people you wouldn’t meet or know otherwise. Personally, I think everyone is entitled to be treated with humanity and that we should elect leaders to uphold that. But I am so saddened by the hate, vitriol, dehumanization, fear and anger that dominates social media/news cycle from EVERY side, EVERY political perspective. We need to cut through this. With kindness, listening and a willingness to grow. It’s hard right now. But we need something to balance the negative. WE NEED TO CREATE LIGHT. Even if you can’t find light in people you consider too hateful, try to find an access point with someone where you DO think you can connect. Share and relish in stories where people treat each other with respect. And create your own stories. There has to be humanity in all of us, right? I’m gonna try and practice this. I know it will be deeply imperfect but I’ll keep trying. “I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.”- MLK

However you feel about immigration, it’s important to hear all sides of the story. Please read with the article linked in my bio. Peace xx #FamiliesBelongTogether
