    This class will consist of mindful gentle flowing movements with the breath, breathing techniques, warm up sequence, sun salutations, yoga pose(asana) flow to improve flexibility, mobililty, strenght and body awareness, guided meditations and relaxation. My classes will incorporate the Elements of Ayurveda and Traditional chinese medicine, Self love and care, Accupressure and connecting the Mind, Body and breath.Teaching you to bring Yoga into your life on and off the mat. Encouraging you to develop your own self practice❤

    Now that we have some foundational work done, let’s start flipping that shape. Lunges and lunges like positions are a great way to start using gravity to increase spinal and hip extension, while isolating one side at a time. The benefit here is that we can deeply focus on squaring the hips to create clean lines of stretch across the front body. Both sides at the same time can be more difficult to manage, so this approach is a good prep for deeper asymmetrical backbends.

    For today’s pose choose a lunge position you like but stop short of moving forward into the front knee. Hang back for awhile as you use the abdomen to draw the front low belly slightly in a up, attempting to make more posterior pelvic tilt in the hips. Be sure to utilize your back strength to to create the backbend. I like one hand to remind me to draw the low belly slightly in and up and a forearm in the back to create a bend around while gently lifting that bend up towards the ceiling and forward.
    Keep using the adductors in both legs, drawing to the midline. As the back hip energetically draws forward the front pulls back, we create a “scissoring” like feeling with the legs. Double bonus, with the back knee bent we can more strongly lengthen the quad group and posterior pelvic tilt means we are more likely to really stretch the illiopsoas as we arch back.
    Today I’d love to see some lunge variations and some detail about what you feel in the pose. Are you starting to feel support out of the midline and how the backbend naturally grows away from this support? I really believe that THINKING these type feels is a wonderful way to imprint and help the body create. Be sure to tag me and use the hashtag #beautifulbackbends2019 .

    I wanted to post this because I felt proud of myself for making progress. Since I started my practice back up in December, I have gained a little less than 45 degrees in my Dancer pose (and gained much better form) so that my lifted leg is nearly perpendicular to my standing leg. It's now February. I'm so happy with myself for continuing my practice, and actually actively trying to remember proper form when I'm practicing alone.
    Here's to more months, and infinite possibilities 🍾
