    It’s that time of the week... I can’t believe the difference. I when I was bigger I didn’t even realise how round my face looked, I’ve always had chubby cheeks since being a kid but to look now and see my face shape looks different is so weird! The picture on the right was last weekend and it was the first picture we took and I was shocked when I actually liked it! 😂

    32 vs 42 years old and heck YASSSS!  And can I point out how my daughter has the same look on her face in both pictures? She was 1 in that first pic. She’s 11 now. Same attitude. 😂 .

I’m loving my 40’s.  I finally understand my body and how to take care of it. Ladies, getting older ain’t so bad. I will tell you self-care  changes a lot as you age and continuing learn how to care for yourself is key.  The food your body can process will change. The types of exercises your body will respond to changes too. Your goals will change! Everything changes! The phrase, “I used to be able to ________ “ means nothing now. Throw. It. Out. And never say it again cuz it’s irrelevant to now and your future. .

Gainz and progress don’t lament. They look forward not backward. .

Listen and be attentive to these changes. Be deliberate with your path. Think big but take small steps towards your goal so each step sticks! To start, MOVE toward your direction. One change at a time is fine. .

Transformations take time, patience and persistence. Stop pressuring yourself to be like anyone else. They aren’t you. Let these changes stick before trying to conquer it all. .

My current goal is to rock my 50’s!! Continue to lift, be strong, eat clean and wear my bikini any time of year with 💯 % confidence. Im gonna show  my stretch marks, bloating belly or rippling cut muscles— whatever that day has in store for me. It’s gonna be OK and wrapping my head around that is something I need to work on. I’ll get there. I will and so can you. .

    🌿✨ Am I showcasing a unrealistic life on my Instagram?✨🌿

✨ I use a filter, I pose a certain way, I put my mirror near a window to get great lighting, I look happy, I post pretty good! Does that mean I’m fake? Aw I lying to you? Well no, I’m just showing you the highlights of my life! Let’s be real, nobody wants to post themselves being upset and negative! I’m quite a positive person and I’d like to think that was reflected on my page! But at the same time, I don’t want people to think I don’t have ups and downs, that I live a filtered life and my food always looks pretty 😂 because it’s not true! I have times when I’m not feeling my best (and I try to share that on my stories, but sometimes it’s not the time and place to), there’s times where I just eat from a pot and don’t care what my food looks like! But I enjoy creating content for Instagram, and I enjoy the way I do it! I don’t force myself to take a photo if I don’t want to, I don’t force myself to impress people! That’s just how I am! ✨ I could never be that person who promotes something, knowing that they have an audience to promote it to, and mislead them into something which is absolute rubbish! ✨ I just think, what if it was me reading it? Would I want to be mislead! Obviously not! I do have a science background so I would like to think I have the knowledge to help people in some way! I like sharing what has helped me, because if it’s helped me, it might help someone else! ✨

    from the very beginning of my journey I’ve made a big effort to take photos of my progress along the way. here is a #tiutransformation post! From November to March I dropped 25lbs and I hit a big plateau, and then I started working with @samantha.schill to help me take my fitness to the next level. In April, Sam encouraged me to join a 12 week challenge with @spaladyfitness, and I’m so glad I did. I followed the @toneitupnutrition plan, lifted heavy at the gym, and focused on my overall well-being and dropped another 25lbs! I am in shock looking at all of these progress photos (the latter 4 are from the 12 week challenge) - I am amazed at what I’ve accomplished and I am excited to keep going. I now see myself as an athlete, and eating healthy is just a natural part of my lifestyle. Thank you to @toneitup, to Sam, and to all of you for all of your support on bad days and your encouragement on good days! SO MUCH LOVE 💕 .

    It’s a great day to have a great day 🌟

Well I believe that we have the power to choose whether our days are good or bad. There are definitely circumstances that we encounter every day that can influence your day/mood if you let it but it’s in how we react to these things that determines if our day is good or not 🙌🏼 I get frustrated, stressed and annoyed everyday when things don’t get my way however instead of looking at things in a negative way I like to remind myself just how fortunate I am to have a lot of GOOD things in my life!

If something you’re doing is impacting your mood (say for example sitting in traffic while you’re late) it may be time to take a step back and evaluate if you can make a change (leave earlier) or switch things up in your life (use a bike or public transit)

Moral of the story is you have the power to alter yours and someone else’s day by choosing to see things positively... after a little complaining of course 😉

    What is your favorite lower body exercise?⁣

I used to hate squats. I sort of still do lol but I also love squats🍑⁣
⁣
Contrary to what some “booty builder” guides / Instagram accounts claim, squats are not primarily booty builders.⁣
⁣
If you squat every single day, first off wyd...you shouldn’t do any exercise every single day because it’s literally suboptimal for recovery/progress.⁣
⁣
But more to the point, if you do squats every single day, you will not have a massive butt. But you will likely have massive quads. There’s nothing wrong with having massive quads, heck I’d love to see my chicken legs get substantially bigger. But it’s crucial to know what any given exercise is actually working, and squats ain’t doing a ton for your glutes.⁣
⁣
Our glutes are strongest and experience the greatest amount of activation when we’re near full hip extension. But with squats, we literally reach full hip extension when we’re completely upright at the end of the range of motion...aka when there’s literally 0 tension on the glute muscle fibers.⁣
⁣
So again, when it comes to glutes, squats ain’t it chief.⁣
⁣
That said, squats are an incredible exercise, and there are a few best practices to see the best results possible, including the best possible glute gains.⁣
⁣
You may notice when I get into place to initiate the set, I step out in each direction and angle my feet outward. Taking a slightly wider than shoulder-width foot placement, with toes pointed out 30 degrees, ensures the most glute activation possible given the orientation of the glute muscle fibers (closest to parallel to the line of pull of the squat when in this stance).⁣
⁣
Next best practice is DEPTH. A very recently published study proved that full squats produce about 5% more glute hypertrophy as compared to half squats (7% growth for full as compared to 2% growth for half squats).⁣
⁣
It’s important to note that full range of motion is defined as a 90-degree angle. So long as you reach sufficient fatigue (8/10 perceived rate of exertion), it doesn’t matter whether you go past 90 degrees or not.⁣

So if you’re like me and you can’t safely go past 90 degrees, worry not; gains can still be made. #HeartOfALyon
