The title references the golden flame that sprang from the original Goldendale ironworks which previously lit the Chatterley Valley – locals for many years referred to the iron works as “the flame that never dies.” The new, elegant artwork stands at 21 metres tall. The piece is made from corten steel which alludes to the steel previously manufactured in the area. Over 1,000 hand blown glass prisms are attached to the column of the artwork. Each one contains a memory or wish written on handmade paper by hundreds of people in the local community.
The sculpture will be internally lit so that it appears to glow at night. Lines and marks engraved on to the column have been informed and inspired by the Sutherland Map which is located in the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery. The map clearly shows the layers of geological strata that make up the Chatterley Valley. On a site visit the artist found a piece of iron from the old works which has a remarkable resemblance to a human heart. This has been suspended in the interior of the artwork to represent the beating heart of the community. It is one of the tallest public art sculptures in Britain. The 21-metre-high creation is one metre (three feet) taller than the Angel of the North, Antony Gormley's acclaimed work in Gateshead. #stokeontrentlive #staffsskies #bbcweather #itvweather #natgeo #stokeontrentphotographer #sunset #sculpture #artwork #johnsonstiles #thepotteries #staffordshire

    Potters Arf - June 2011. Silver medal - 1 hour 43 minutes.
My fitness journey started on New Years Eve 2010. A resolution to get fit and run 13 miles in 6 months time.
January 1st - I purchased the very outfit in the picture.
January 2nd - I started to run. At first just from one lamppost to the next, then from landmark to landmark, then for miles and miles. 4 times a week I ran my ass off. Hitting a solid 10 miles after 5 months. I lost over 2 stone preparing for the race, there was sweat, blood and tears, preparing for the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. But my god it was worth it... Good luck to everyone running the race tomorrow! I know your pain, the aching muscles, sore joints and bruised feet, It sucks.
But I also know the immense feeling of victory you get when you cross that finish line. The feeling of months and months of hard work, all for one glorious moment.
This photo was taken about 200m short of the finish line. It's not the most attractive face, but it's the face of a determined young man, a man who didn't quit, and if it wasn't for him, I wouldn't be here now... #potterarf #thepotteries

I've spent the weekend at @valentineclays on their two day pottery course for beginners. I've always wanted to have a go and it's been so good! Our teacher @jonfrench2 made it seem so easy but also dumbed it down enough for us newbies and everyone's pots actually turned out okay! By the end we had bowls, pots, mugs and even a mini bottle kiln!
Jon has a studio at Middleport Pottery so one my pots are fired I'm going to head up there and paint/glaze them. I can't wait to see them all fired, I just hope they survive the kiln 🤞🏻

We spent the bank holiday in one of my favourite places, Stoke on Trent.
I first visited Stoke as a boy over two decades ago and the decline of The Potteries, ever since then, breaks your heart.
However, the old factory collections are fighting back and now that Wedgwood is safe and the Minton archive has returned home it is the turn of Spode and Copeland to regain their position. The Spode Museum Trust has reclaimed some of the old Spode buildings in Stoke and are doing an excellent job redisplaying their superb collection. Here are some photos of their Blue Room, a space used to display their collection of blue and white transfer printed wares, a technique very much associated with the Spode factory.
I recommend you visit and support the museum as they are hoping to put more of the collection on display this year.

Day 10-hobby/pastime & day 11 ( on the drag here😂) hometown! I wish I had more time to dedicate to my hobby, which is sewing and making....this gorgeous Georgian housekeepers cupboard was a present to myself when I moved from Manchester my birth town, to Stoke On Trent, which I guess is now my home town, as I've lived here 5 yrs this yr. Stoke of course is the home of @emma_bridgewater and other well known pot banks, it's a joy to live in #thepotteries ❤️ When I lived in my old house the spare room doubled up as my sewing room....so when I moved I had to find storage large enough to home my fabric stash and miscellaneous collection of tins and tat! So here it is....in all its glory....I open it sometimes and it makes me smile....but mostly it's closed because I'm run off my feet! 😂 @myhousethismonth #myhousethismonth #mysewingspace #sewing #notenoughdaysintheweek #sewingroomstorage #home #makingahouseahome #stokeontrent #manchester #hometown #diningroom
