William Morris' use of birds and animals in his early tapestries is a forebearer to his later carpet patterns. ‘The Forest’, one of his most successful compositions, uses a dense cover of trailing acanthus leaves, as seen in his first tapestry 'Acanthus and Vine', into which have been placed Philip Webb's five studies of animals and birds, including a sitting hare. The tapestry was woven by Morris & Co.'s three most senior weavers 'under the superintendence of William Morris' according to the 1890 Arts and Crafts Exhibition catalogue. Bought by Aleco Ionides for 1 Holland Park, in London, it hung in his study together with an acanthus-leaf panel. Emma Bossons has a fond admiration for Morris’ work and she enjoys seeking out the small details to focus on. Adopting the slender form of Morris’ sitting hare, she casts the creatures into a fine pottery design for a Moorcroft ginger jar. Emma harnesses the incredible earthy tones of green and blue, synonymous with William Morris designs.

    #TheWhiteCrow (12A, subtitles) Friday 26 and Saturday 27 April, 7.45pm

In early 1960s Paris, the Cold War may be raging, but Soviet authorities have decided to send the world-renowned Kirov Ballet on tour to demonstrate the kind of cultural refinement that lies behind the Iron Curtain. Much to the annoyance of his KGB minders, one of the company’s leading dancers, #RudolfNureyev, is immediately smitten with the City of Light and its museums, Jazz bars and social life, awakening a dangerous desire for creative independence.

Ralph Fiennes’ third directorial outing is a biopic of Nureyev, whose defection from the USSR to the west stunned the world. Ukrainian dancer Oleg Ivenko plays the inscrutable Nureyev, whose talent and temperament shook international relations.

My factory visit! 🏭 🇬🇧 Emma Bridgewater Factory, May 19, 2011. 🇬🇧 As Americans on holiday, we spent nearly the entire day at the factory. 🏭 I became a Collectors Club member that day. 🇬🇧 Besides the wonderful pottery tour, cafe and factory shop...what really made our visit special were the workers. 🇬🇧 The moment we walked into the factory, we met Paul. He was so nice and helpful to us throughout the entire day. Jan was our tour guide and gave a great factory tour. 🇬🇧 The icing on the cake was, of course, meeting Matthew Rice! 👨🏻‍🎨 He was so nice and chatted with us several times. Now on my bucket list is to visit again and meet Emma. 👸🏼We mostly collect pottery made in England 🇬🇧and so admire Emma and Matthew for revitalizing and keeping The Potteries alive! 🇬🇧 🏭 Today is Day 27: Factory 🏭 for an Emma Bridgewater photo 📷challenge. 🇬🇧👑☕️🍰#emmabridgewater #unionjack 🇬🇧#emmabridgewaterfactory 🏭 #matthewrice 👨🏻‍🎨#emmabridgewatermarch #teapot #madeinengland 🇬🇧#thepotteries 🇬🇧#stokeontrent 🇬🇧#visitstaffordshire #emmabridgewaterusa #emmabridgewaterpottery #britishpottery 🇬🇧#emmabridgewateraddict @emma_bridgewater Can’t wait to come back! ☕️🍰
