THRIVING not SURVIVING. This is a term I use a lot in my sobriety and it’s how the majority of my life is now👌
.
.When I was drinking everything felt like a struggle when I was hungover. The simple things like going to work, getting on public transport, seeing my friends, going back home to see my family, making food, going to the gym. I felt like I was surviving and getting through the day in the hope I would feel better tomorrow😩
.
.However life is not perfect just because I don’t drink anymore. This weekend is one of those times where I have struggled. Struggled that I can’t go out with my friends and drink, struggled that yesterday everyone at work started drinking at 3:00pm because it was a four day weekend, struggled that I couldn’t go to the day party, struggled with seeing people have fun in the sun ☀️
.
.This journey can sometimes be REALLY hard but I wouldn’t change it because my life is better and I am happier even if there are moments where it isn’t plain sailing ⛵️
.
.To navigate this situation last night I met with a sober pal for drinks, today I had breakfast with a new friend, I had an afternoon nap and a bath. I called a friend to have a chat and decided to back home to see my family❤️
.
.For anyone else struggling just know that these feelings will pass and tomorrow is a new day🙏 #itsokaynottobeokay

    Hi sober lovelies!
.
Apologies for the lack of posts lately! We’ve been sobering it up in LA!
.
California is a state massively conscious about health & wellbeing & we had the best time at @coachella music festival during the weekend!
.
Due to the age limit on alcohol it is only able to be purchased and drank within certain segregated areas so it was so easy to enjoy the whole experience without a drop of alcohol in sight! And It was truly amazing to see people having the best time without it!
.
Unfortunately there are limited cool weekend experiences here in the U.K. that cater for non-drinkers, we’re on a mission to change that but we need your help!
.
What kind of events/venues would you like to see more alcohol free beverages? And what would you like to see more of at our next event?
.
We are starting a personal blog & account featuring places to visit & fun things to do without the need for alcohol so please do follow @becky_anelegantfusion for more sober ideas!!
.
Happy sober Wednesday 🎉

Unfortunately, I never passed out... I’d always carry on drinking, in a complete blackout, not having a fucking clue what I was doing, up to random shit, who knows what 🤷🏼‍♀️ I still don’t know to this day. Unexplained injuries & phone calls 🥴
Bye to those days... never to be missed 🖕

    . . .

When I drank, my life was limited.

In the house, I would knock back wine, probably watch coronation street and moan about my life.

That's the thing about alcohol, it kills creativity, optimism and enthusiasm.

When I went out or away, I've realised I would limit myself to the streets that the pubs were in and never explore.

I would think I was really sophisticated in different cities because I chose swanky bars and expensive restaurants.

Wrong.

I was an unsophisticated bore. I never knew what lay beyond the streets I was drinking in.

Different story now.

I grab a coffee and go exploring.
Feel the sun on my face. Wind in my hair. Take pictures. Get my steps up on my Fitbit.

I do WHATEVER it takes to keep me happy.
And sober.

This picture is the Clyde Arc and it looked stunning late yesterday afternoon.
And then back in the hotel room, we watched a brilliant film called Juliet, Naked based on the novel by Nick Hornby.

It was a perfect evening.

When drinking, I would have done neither of these things.
Last night I came up with the idea of starting a new hashtag #inmysobriety

I want the hashtag to be about all the things you do instead of drinking and all the things you do to keep yourself from drinking.

I want to bring the sober community closer together and have collated ideas under one hashtag that might inspire someone who is struggling... Last night, in my sobriety, I went for a walk and took this beautiful picture. And then I watched a film from start to finish without checking my phone once.

I'm going to tag all my fave sober accounts who might want to include the hashtag in future posts.

Love to all you sober warriors. Have a brilliant Saturday...💜💜💜 . . . . .

#flashbackfriday to the good ol White Hart.... where I spent many a night..... sometimes punter side of the bar, other times serving! .
.
Man, I did have a hoot! They don’t call me Mad Mars for nothing..... I’ve had some crazy fun and some dark times there too. .
.
This was definitely not a time when I was concerned about my drinking, or feeling anxiety. This was a fun night out with my girls and my beautiful friend and ex boss @rem.c3po .
.
Love you all ladies! Total true friends through thick and thin. .
.

    ONE YEAR SOBER💪
.
.Something that seemed impossible this time last year is suddenly possible today 💥
.
.Choosing not to drink alcohol has changed my life👌
.
.I am no longer filled with anxiety and depression on a weekly basis. I respect myself, I love myself, I trust myself, I believe in who I am,I am comfortable in my own skin, I trust myself, I eat better food, I exercise more, I sleep better, I am kinder to others and more considerate. I am present in every situation and turn up on time. I have more money, I have made a whole new group of amazing sober friends, I have better skin, shiny hair and more energy. I don’t numb my emotions I address them, sit with them and heal them in a healthy way. I feel everything and make genuine connections. I don’t stay in situations that don’t make me happy, I am grateful for every day and appreciate my body. I am more clear headed, more focused and more motivated.I accept myself for who I am 🙏
.
.I started Sober & Social which is only a little project but something I am super proud of. I hope by doing this I can change if only in a small way how people feel about socialising sober 👯
.
.Thank you so much for everyone that has supported me on this journey 💃
