A #Winters #Red #Light. Ice cold and snowing. #Brrrrrr. The #TrafficLights that keep us all safe on the roads are also party made of #Aluminium. Over the years we have seen many of these units recycled for more #EnergyEfficient units. Replacing old school light bulbs for #LEDs and other more efficient circuitry and software no doubt...
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
#DidYouKnow - On Aug. 5, 1914, a four-way traffic signal was installed in the busy #Cleveland, #Ohio, intersection of Euclid Avenue and East 105th Street. Why was this seemingly mundane event 101 years ago important? Because it was the first electric traffic signal that resembles what's seen all over the world today. It wasn't automatic; it was operated by a police officer in a booth. And there were only red and green lights. But for all intents and purposes, it was the first-ever modern traffic light. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Helloooo 👋, to all of you new followers! We’re so grateful to have you along for the journey. In case you don’t know much about us, we’re not really an “us”. We’re an “I”, meaning I (Jala) am the designer and owner of Seek & Swoon. I live in Portland, Oregon with my husband and two kids. All of my throws are made in the USA from recycled cotton at a family owned and operated knitting mill. And most of them are inspired by places I’ve traveled. I’m a one woman show and I truly appreciate every single follow, like and purchase 😉. Thank you so much for being a part of my story. I hope you’re inspired, at some point, along the way. ❤️

While we were on vacation we walked on the beach a lot. One night, Daniel and I went for a walk and came across all of this trash washing up from the ocean due to the storms. I see this all the time on the internet but when you see it for yourself it makes it a little more real. You could shine your light in the ocean and see all the trash that was washing up. We immediately went inside grabbed some trash bags and started picking up trash. We would walk back by an area we already picked up and MORE trash than before was there. It was insane. I was so very happy to wake up the next day and see more people on the beach picking up trash. This was what we collected. I mostly saw bottle caps, toothbrushes, plastic utensils, and bottles. Other things that were found were shoes, brooms, a hamper, needles, plastic wraps, and so much more. We can all do so much better. I’m making it a personal mission of mine to eliminate as much plastic from my life that I can. Also, you could go to the link in my bio and buy a bracelet that helps get trash out of our ocean. Daniel and I did before we even saw all the trash. More videos in my story. Insta wouldn’t let me post my other videos bc they were too long and YES I had to write all of this over AGAIN. #4ocean #dobetter #makeadifference #saveourocean #recycle #eliminateplastic

A tough picture to look at, but an important one. Ghost nets that wash up on coastlines entangle millions of marine life each year. Building awareness is how we can stop being reactive and instead respond in a way that's proactive. .

Did you know as of September Mcdonalds franchises will no longer use plastic lids on Mcflurry's ? 🍦
.
This is a brilliant step forward by the fast food company and will hopefully lead to a global role out soon! 🌍
.
Top tip 💡: Whenever eating out try to avoid unnecessary plastic, this may be through bringing your own alternatives or simply refusing thing such as plastic straws.

    Weekly shop!
•
I managed quite a good shop this week from Morrison’s (and a quick stop at Aldi for ACV- they have terrible packaging so it was a very quick stop)
•
If you had watched my stories yesterday (saved in highlights) you will have seen I did a little price check of the unpackaged and packaged fruit and vegetables. It was difficult because some of the products were priced per item and not per kg when packaged. I have also been online to try and do a price comparison as a lot of you have questions about this but I couldn’t find the option to select loose vegetables 😐
•
From what I saw at @morrisons onions, cucumber, broccoli and sweet potatoes were all the same price whether you chose packaging or not. Peppers and tomatoes were more expensive without packaging. I couldn’t check everything because I had a lil baba in tow and she’s just not prepared to sit there whilst I scrutinise the veg 😂 so I have decided that I’m going to write to Morrison’s to find out more.
•
I feel like out of the ‘big 5’ supermarkets in the UK Morrison’s is well ahead in terms of package free shopping and that is something that I’m positive about. Sometimes when I see businesses attempting to do something that we all want (plastic free) we can get passionate about what they still aren’t doing and then the shops that are doing nothing slide on by without being scrutinised (@tescofood @aldiuk @sainsburys @asda i’ve got my peepers on you 👀)
•
I’m not writing this letter to ‘bash’ @morrisons -I really am genuinely interested in what their plans are for the future because I think they are trying to make a lot of changes 🙌🏻
•
One thing that I noticed was that the ‘wonky veg’ range (something that I would have chosen in the past) is very good value but packaged. This is something that I am going to ask about as it would be a huge gain if @morrisons were able to make this range package free!
•
I bought a huge punnet of strawberries with a plastic film on top. My daughter loves 🍓 and this is the best option I have found. It isn’t about perfection, it is about doing what we can in the circumstances we have 💚

How are you guys finding the food shop?
