My family is not fond of the heat, so we spent the afternoon yesterday enjoying the AC of the @ascottph hotel room doing whatever we like. We also love how the restaurants are walking distance only to the hotel! Check out my Ig stories for all the fantastic food we got to taste (probably the reason why I couldn’t sleep last night lol)! ✨❤️ #ascotthotel #vacationmode #familytime #bgc #staycation

World War 2: Japan and the Philippines

During the early years of the Spanish conquest, in 1567, just 2 years after Miguel Lopez de Legazpi claimed the islands for the crown of Spain, he informed Philip II about Japanese vessels and Japanese traders they’ve encountered in Cebu.

In 1570, Legazpi sent Martin de Goiti to explore Manila and there he came across 20 Japanese residents.
The Japanese were already established in Manila even before the city was established as the capital of the Philippines back in June 1571.

They were also present in Cagayan, Pangasinan, and some parts in Mindanao.

It would seem that the Japanese may have been under our skin, longer than we thought.

SPANISH OCCUPATION: MEXICO AND THE PHILIPPINES

Due to its distance from Spain, the Spanish Government assigned Manila’s administration and government to the Viceroyalty of New Spain for two and a half centuries. Evangelization and commercialization constituted the core of intercontinental ties between Asia and America that materialized with the Manila-Acapulco galleons trade.
Due to the grand exchange with the Philippines in those days, many cultural traits were adopted by one another, with Mexicans remaining in the Philippines, and Filipinos establishing in Mexico, particularly the central west coast, near the port town of Acapulco.
Many Nahuatl words were adopted and popularized in the Philippines, such as Tianggui (market fair) and Zapote(a fruit). Reference:  Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “Bilateral relations: Mexico-Philippines”. Mexican Embassy in the Philippines. Retrieved April 16, 2009.

    THE PHILIPPINES AND BRUNEI:

The Istana Nurul Iman (Jawi: ايستان نور الإيمان; English: The Light of Faith Palace) is the official residence of the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, and the seat of the Brunei government. The palace is located on a leafy, riverside sprawl of hills on the banks of the Brunei River, a few kilometres southwest of Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei’s capital city. The palace is often at the centre of state occasions and royal hospitality.  The name “Istana Nurul Iman” is taken from Malay Istana and Arabic Nur-ol Imaan and means Palace of the Light of Faith. It was designed by Filipino Visayan architect Leandro V. Locsin, who utilized the architectural motif of golden domes and vaulted roofs to echo Brunei’s Islamic and Malay influences

TODAY IS APRIL 9 (ARAW NG KAGITINGAN) ……also known as Bataan Day or Bataan and Corregidor Day, is a national observance in the Philippines which commemorates the fall of Bataan during World War II.

At dawn on 9 April 1942, against the orders of Generals Douglas MacArthur and Jonathan Wainwright, the commander of the Luzon Force, Bataan, Major General Edward P. King, Jr., surrendered more than 76,000 starving and disease-ridden soldiers (67,000 Filipinos, 1,000 Chinese Filipinos, and 11,796 Americans) to Japanese troops.

The majority of these prisoners of war had their belongings confiscated before being forced to endure the infamous 140-kilometre (87 mi) Bataan Death March to Camp O'Donnell in Capas, Tarlac. En route, thousands died from dehydration, heat prostration, untreated wounds, and wanton execution while walking in deep dust over vehicle-broken Macadam roads, and crammed into rail cars for transport to captivity.

The few who were lucky enough to travel by truck to San Fernando, Pampanga would still have to endure more than an additional 25 miles (40 km) of marching. Prisoners were beaten randomly and often denied promised food and water. Those who fell behind were usually executed or left to die, with the sides of the roads becoming littered with dead bodies and those moaning for help.

Only some 54,000 of the 76,000 prisoners reached their destination; the exact death toll is difficult to assess because thousands of captives were able to escape from their guards. Approximately 5,000-10,000 Filipino and 600-650 American prisoners-of-war died before they could reach Camp O'Donnell.“ SOURCE: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bataan_Day

Banners welcoming visitors to the Philippines as a “province of China” were seen hanging on several footbridges in Metro Manila on Thursday. The banners that read “Welcome to the Philippines, Province of China” made their appearance in time for the second anniversary of The Hague’s ruling that invalidated China’s claim to nearly all of the South China Sea,  it is still not clear who is behind the hanging of the banners.

Note: Only the China province banner thingie was real, the rest are edits lol. Also, sighs, Filipinos and their colonial mentality.
