  • Happy National Coming Out Day! 30 years ago, the march on Washington for Gay and Lesbian rights established the first National coming out Day. Today, coming-out - as lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, trans*, or ally - is still a courageous act, and a step towards equality! ⚜️ #msmu #msmula #msmuadmission #pride 🌈

  • Happy Friday! We want to introduce some steps that can help you manage your daily stress. Stress is an everyday fact of life. It’s almost to impossible to avoid it. Often stress and chronic pain can go hand in hand. Instead of going straight to pills, we recommend safer alternatives. 💆🏻‍♂️💆🏻‍♀️💆🏻‍♂️ Identify the sources of your stress. 🌙🌙🌙 Your physical environment, the people around you, and your thoughts can all contribute to your stress level. Be mindful of what’s around you ... 🤲🏽🤲🏽🤲🏽 Address them. Not all sources of stress can be removed from your life (e.g. LA traffic), but some can at least be modified. The people around you and your thoughts are things that you can have some control over. We’re not recommending you to cut people off from your life, but maybe have a sit down and express how they make you feel. Who knows, you might be able to help them reduce their stress by just talking things out. 🙂🙂🙂 Using proven interventions to manage your stress. Practicing mindfulness, relaxation, visualization techniques, daily meditation, and regular exercising can do wonders to your stress level. 🌀🌀🌀 This is a simplified set of steps to deal with stress. We understand each individual copes with stress differently. As physical therapy students, we highly recommend everyone take a bit of time in their busy schedules to exercise and meditate with mindfulness. Think of it as an investment towards your health. 😇😇😇 The app Headspace is doing a special discount for students at only $10 for the year! It is a great app that many of our classmates and friends use daily to help manage the stress of school. We highly recommend it. Give it a try and let us know what you think.

  • “What is life if you don& #039 ;t go full throttle at what makes you happy?” Inspiring words from @KimQuitzon, an Honors Program alum who graduated from the Mount in 2016 with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and New Media and a minor in Multimedia Communications. Currently, Kim is a music journalist in Los Angeles for local blogs and continues to search for new opportunities in media. We are so proud of you Kim! Below, we ask Kim to share her experiences as a recent Mount graduate. #MSMULA #MSMULAHonors #MSMULAHonorsAlums #MSMUnstoppable #MSMUWomen #MSMUGrad #HonorsProgram #Media #Journalist ————— Kim shares, “It& #039 ;s hard to break through any industry, but the music industry is cut throat. I started off taking internships from every company that came my way. I found myself covering concerts and artists I never imagined. I am determined to help promote artists who get little to no exposure because I think it& #039 ;s important to have a wide array of creatives reach their audience...every day I work hard to reach my mini goals and eventually reach my big dreams.” Learn more at http://kimquitzon.com/ ————— Honors Program alums, what have you been up to? • Equity/Inequity. Inclusion/Exclusion. Justice/Injustice. Those were just some of the topics addressed during today’s Community Immersion tour of Los Angeles. Honors Scholars enrolled in Dr. Melendres’ First Year Seminar Foundations Honors and Honors Capstone courses boarded a bus and spent our Sunday visiting various neighborhoods around Los Angeles to learn about some of the city’s most pressing concerns. More importantly, today’s event allowed us to critically think about the ways in which we can all be active leaders and change agents in the communities in which we live and work. Thank you @stratiscope for hosting yet another amazing event! We look forward to working with you again the near future! #MSMULA #MSMULAHonors #MSMUnstoppable #MSMUWomen #HonorsProgram #FirstYearSeminar #HonorsCapstone #CommunityImmersion #LosAngeles #Equity #Inclusion #Justice

  • In honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month and for my Honors Scholars in need of more Honors Thesis inspiration, we are proud to feature our Honors Program alum, Mariana, who graduated from the Mount this past May 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Sociology with an emphasis in Medical Sociology. Last year as part of her Honors Thesis, Mariana conducted research on the impact of mentoring relationships for the advancement of Latina graduate students in their pursuits of their professional careers. Mariana was the first student whose original scholarly research was featured in our University’s first companion anthology to the Report on the Status of Women and Girls in CA - Collectif - via the Center for the Advancement of Women.
