For most of my life, I have struggled with that feeling of being good enough. I think it stemmed from having people in my life that mostly criticized me or judged me for who I am and what I had done. Somehow, I never quite measured up to their expectations or their opinion of how something was supposed to be done.
I have since cut that out of my life. While criticism is a useful tool. Criticism also has to be delivered with a pure heart, and can't be delivered for the purpose of manipulation.
Have any of you felt like that? Where you felt like you didn't measure up to someone else's standards? It happens to most people I've spoken with. It's actually quite common.

Last year, I went on this weekend trip to photograph horses that were going to be driven straight in our direction. I'd photographed subjects standing still, but never that kind of rapid and quite intimidating movement. I felt like I was out of my league and was completely uncomfortable. Would I be able to keep up with the other photographers? Would I be an annoyance because I wasn't an expert? Oh goodness, I had a ton of second-guessing. However, I couldn't remember a time when I'd been quite as excited.
Would I be a good enough photographer to get some decent shots? Would I be disappointed if all I got was motion blur?
This particular shot is a much bigger shot. I'm including it here so you can see the full image. This shot is one of my favorites from that day.
Was I good enough? Why, YES I am!
The moral of this story is really to never lose faith in yourself. Have a belief that your best is good enough. If you want more, then keep working it, learning.
Instead of trying to be good enough for others, be good enough for YOU. This is your life. Go out and live YOUR best life. .

โ€œIโ€™m an ordinary person who found herself on an extraordinary journeyโ€ - Michelle Obama. This book was incredible, took me a little longer than a week to read though, but so worth it! What an incredible family, with so much love to give. Iโ€™m gutted that the amazing work they have done is being pulled apart by the the ignorant racist twit currently residing in the White House. #becomingmichelleobama #michelleobama #readingchallenge2019 #reading #bookstagram #books

I just finished listening to this, and I love love LOVE it. Itโ€™s Michelle Obama reading her own memoir about growing up, falling in love with Barack, her career, kids, being the First Lady. Her work ethic and attitude are inspiring, and her candidness feels honestโ€”like, she talks about the times when she didnโ€™t support Barack in his political career. Or when her voice breaks talking about her fatherโ€™s death. And I relate so much to her talking about the pressures and expectations of following certain paths and then choosing to โ€œswerve.โ€ Audible lets me send a link to a free download for anyone whoโ€™s never received a similar link before. If you want one, DM me! #michelleobama #becoming #memoirs #nonfiction #audiblebooks #audiobooks #bookstagram #booksofinstagram #chihsbooklist2019

Warning: this is probably the gushiest review Iโ€™ve ever written. I didnโ€™t think it was possible to love Michelle Obama any more, but it is. Much like the woman herself, Becoming doesnโ€™t need much of an introduction. How could the memoirs of the former first lady be anything short of spectacular? From watching her traverse the worldโ€™s stage during her eight year tenure in the White House, weโ€™d all known Michelle was incredible - perhaps even formidable.
    โ€ข
Becoming, however offers a slightly different perspective. Hereโ€™s a girl who grew up on the South Side of Chicago with a big, loving family. A fierce learner out to prove to everyone that a little black girl from a poor neighbourhood can make it. Her journey through Ivy League schools, a career in corporate law and even to the White House are more than enough to show the entire world her worth, but what makes Michelleโ€™s story so compelling is the bits in between. The things that set her soul of fire. Her values, her beliefs, her empathy and her warmth. This is what makes Michelle Obama - and by extension her autobiography - so remarkable. Itโ€™s so much more than a White House exposรฉ or a vicarious look into how The Obamaโ€™s live. Michelle shares every part of herself.
    โ€ข
Iโ€™m pretty sure Iโ€™ve started talking to people like Michelle is *actually* my close friend and mentor. But itโ€™s almost impossible to read it without picking up a life lesson or two, or nod knowingly at a shared experience (both good and bad) despite our lives being a million miles apart. To say sheโ€™s inspirational is an understatement. Obviously sheโ€™s a downright icon. But I love that itโ€™s because sheโ€™s down to earth, knows her self-worth and isnโ€™t afraid to do the right thing, even if it does ruffle a few feathers. So if you hear me using my new mantra, WWMD, over the next couple of weeks... youโ€™ll know why.
