One of the things that I find important is knowing what goes into your body. We live in such a busy world and I know its important to have convenience. At times though I question at what cost.
So in learning how to eat more healthy its important to read your labels and know what you are putting in your body. Anything with more than 5 ingredients to me can be too much..especially if you cant make out what those ingredients are.

So one of the things I do over the weekend when I meal prep is also prepare sauces..or pastes that I will include in my cooking during the week to bring about more flavor in my meals. One of them is this easy teriyaki sauce.

2 cups water
10Tbsp. Your favorite sweetener ( I used date syrup)
1/2 cup tamari or soy sauce or coconut aminos
1/2 tsp. Ground Ginger
1/2 tsp. Garlic powder
3 Tbsp. Arrow root starch or corn starch
2 Tbsp. Toasted sesame seeds
1 tsp. Dried chilli (optional)

Take 1 cup of the water and mix in your sweetener of choice, ginger, garlic and bring g to boil in a saucepan Adjust the heat to medium and simmer for about 3 minutes.

In a bowl whisk the remaining water and cornstarch and add it to the saucepan. Mix everything together until mixture is well combined, then add in sesame seeds. Simmer until the sauce begins to thicken.
Once ready transfer sauce to a sealed jar or container and refrigerate up to six weeks. .
.

I'll be sharing more sauces, seasonings and spices that I believe helps to bring more flavor to any meal that you prepare at home.

    Bad‼️ 🕵️‍♂️
• Canola Oil
We wanted to include these because we have seen others in our lives who have consumed them for years without ever having looked at the ingredients. While artichoke hearts are normally great for you and packed full of nutrition and fiber, these sad little guys are swimming 🏊 in Canola oil.
Like all modern vegetable oils, canola oil goes through the process of refining, bleaching and degumming, all of which involve high temperatures ♨️ or chemicals☣️ of questionable safety. And because canola oil is high in omega-3 fatty acids, which easily become rancid and foul-smelling 🤢 when subjected to oxygen and high temperatures, it must be deodorized. The standard deodorization process removes a large portion of the omega-3 fatty acids by turning them into trans fatty acids. Although the Canadian government lists the trans content of canola at a minimal 0.2 percent, research at the University of Florida at Gainesville, found trans fat levels as high as 4.6 percent in commercial liquid oil. The consumer has no clue about the presence of trans fatty acids in canola oil because they are not listed on the label.

Canola oil DOES contain very low levels of trans-fat, as do all oils that have been deodorized. Deodorization is the final step in refining ALL vegetable oils. This process produces the bland taste that consumers want.

Another thing that should be noted — Unless specifically labeled otherwise, all Canola oil is GMO, having been genetically modified to resist herbicides. Roughly 90% of all Canola oil is derived from GMO plants.

🌶The taste of this Palestinian/Levante Shatta is gorgeous. It’s fiery, spicy and with a hint of lemon juice, it awakens the taste buds to a whole new level of spiciness. This hot red chilli sauce is basic, authentic and delightful. You can see how beautiful the colour is and the taste is even more divine. It goes really well with meat, chicken, most vegetarian dishes like Mujadara and Rumaniyeh and it’s perfect in a falafel or Labneh sandwich😋 It is indispensable as a condiment, marinate, a dip or on its own. And today It was just perfect with these king prawns🍤 Simple yet amazing!
All you need to prepare this paste is to mix a few simple ingredients, and it’s done! Here’s the recipe:

Ingredients:
500g thin red chilli
4 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
2 cloves of garlic (crushed)
Juice of half a lemon
1 tablespoon of sea salt
1 tablespoon of vinegar to add on top.
More olive oil to go on top.
Method:
Remove the stalks and keep the seeds. Pulse in a blender until you get a relatively thick paste.Transfer to a bowl and add the sea salt. Leave it a day or two in the fridge so that its excess water dries out. Then, add the crushed garlic, olive oil, lemon juice. Mix all together. Transfer to a sterilised jar. Cover with an additional tablespoon of olive oil and a tablespoon of vinegar. Close the jar tightly and keep in the fridge. It should last several weeks. 😋
•Try to use thin red chillies as they contain less water. .
