3 days until the Women’s Unity March! Time to meet to Meera, our next speaker!

Meera Lynn Devotta has always had a strong passion for grassroots action and women’s empowerment initiatives. As a second-generation American and the daughter of Indian immigrants, Meera struggled to balance issues of identity and inclusion within the world of youth activism.

During her time at The George Washington University, Meera decided to create a space for intersections of identity, equality, and activism by co-founding March On The Campus, the first collegiate chapter of March On. A women-led organization, it functions as a mouthpiece for students to join the movement amongst marginalized voices and brings March On’s agenda to campus in an accessible and engaging way.
Meera has used her platform to partner with student organizations, university initiatives, and outside campaigns like Swing Left and March for Our Lives to organize phone banks, registration drives, absentee ballot drives, canvassing efforts, and more.

Last month, Meera graduated Magna Cum Laude from The George Washington University with a B.A. International Affairs and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. She works as a Research Assistant at The Global Women’s Institute, where she focuses on violence against women and girls and aspires to make her way into the world of global gender policy.
    Thank you, Meera!

    Tax-ey Trivia
Since 2001, there have been more than 4.500 changes to the tax code, not including the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017, signed into law December 22, 2017.
More than one-fifth of paper tax returns contain errors. The IRS reports that while the error rate for electronically filed returns is less than 1%, paper filers are 21 times more likely to make a mistake. Errors can cause tax returns to get audited or rejected, so you’re better off filing electronically and lowering your risk.
A good 17% of workers violate the tax code when filing their returns. The majority of the violations are treated by the IRS as honest mistakes.
Only 30% of households itemize deductions, and that amount is anticipated to be lower because of the new tax laws taking effect with the 2018 tax filing.
IRS employees also break the law. A 2015 report showed that almost 1,600 IRS worker willfully evaded taxes over the course of 10 years.
