    If I could talk...the tales I'd tell.
********************************
My Kayla girl. She came into our lives in 2008 a mere two weeks after our boy of 15 years crossed over the rainbow bridge. I was devastated and so desperately needed to have cat love in my life. I went to a local Petsmart that works with a rescue agency to see if I could find a match. So many bouncy, frisky, affectionate kitties so desperately begging for my attention and then there was this ball of fluff curled up in a tight ball in her litter box. No eye contact, no interaction - she just wanted to be left alone. I tried petting & talking to her. She was terrified. Poor girl. I went home and told my hubby she was our girl.

We went the next day to adopt her. Her fear went from bad to worse when we picked her up to take her home. The screeching howls were heartbreaking. I have had cats my whole life and had never heard noises like this come from a cat.  I felt so sad for her. We got her home and gave her private space with access to come and go. She spent 4 days in that room yowling, meowing & barely moving. I'd go in and talk to her several times a day. No touching or trying to coax her out. Then on the 5th day she decided to check things out. She slinked around the house on her belly. Exploring and wondering. We have no idea what her previous life entailed only that we were her third adoptive family. She was absolutely terrified of shoes, she ate every meal like it was her first meal in months & she HATED to be held and the noises she'd make when picked up were frightening. We were slowly gaining her trust. We still couldn't pick her up and she was not a lap cat but she needed to be close to us. She started by laying beside us on the couch & then between the pillows on our bed at night. She was longing for affection on her terms and we were so happy to give it to her in a way that made her feel safe. ❤  Continued in comments ⬇️

Buffy has been getting increasingly skinny and stopped eating this week. After three vet visits across 24 hours, we found out today that she has chronic kidney failure and two masses along her GI tract... The masses are causing difficulty in moving food along. She is coming home tonight, and we await results of the biopsy.
.
The vet has given us fluids we can administer subcutaneously to keep her hydrated in the meantime. She also has some other meds for nausea and appetite.
.
Never thought this beautiful and sweet creature would suddenly be in such bad shape at age ten. If you have any words of advice or comfort, they would be welcome! 💕
