17 until ARTSWELLS! Happy to present Blocktreat, Sarah Wheeler, Tracy McNeil and Valour & Tea.

Hazy, lo-fi, beat-heavy pop songs. Blocktreat (@blocktreatmusic) is the shapeshifting musical project of beatmaker Brandon Hoffman, with percussionist Dan Ruiz, bassist Jess Rampling, and guitarist Matt Campbell. // Sarah Wheeler (@wheelersarah1), a queer artist and recent cancer survivor, is defined by power house vocals and an indomitable positive spirit. A blazing live performer. She has played as part of the 2018 Juno Awards, released three records, played in Tanya Tagaq’s band, recorded with A.C. Newman (New Pornographers), appeared in the film “Aim For The Roses” frequently airing on CBC, and played live with Dan Mangan. Her musical heritage flows from her grandfather who played piano with Nat King Cole. Wheeler’s own music combines strong melody and a message of positivity as a beacon in dark times. “One of Vancouver’s punchiest indie singers.” - Edmonton Sun, "An effortlessly big voice” - Georgia Straight // Canadian-born Tracy McNeil (@tracymcneilpics) has been releasing albums in Australia to the adulation of critics and aficionados since her arrival on our shores in 2007. Described as ‘fully realized, world-class country rock’ (Rhythms Magazine), her latest release Thieves brings a healthy dose of Californian shimmer, harking back to the halcyon days of late 1970’s L.A. country rock with Laurel Canyon-esque harmonies hung from pop hooks. This summer Tracy will be touring her new single Stars in Canada, performing in duo mode with GoodLife guitarist Dan Parsons. Together they captivate audiences of all ages through their impressive vocal harmonies, deft musicality and dynamic performances. Classic Americana with a healthy dose of shimmer - they make it easy to forget that it's just the two of them onstage. // Valour & Tea (@valourandtea) is comprised of the dynamic duo of Val Duncan and Celene Harder. United by a love of vaudeville, comedy, and all things strange, these co-conspirators have been creating theatrical whimsy balanced with irreverent humour since 2012.

Countdown says: 18 days to go! We are happy to welcome to the stage This Way North, Sarah Burton, Selina Martin and UNPACKED.

Hailing from regional Victoria, This Way North (@thiswaynorth) first met in northern Canada at the renowned British Columbian ArtsWells Festival. It’s easy to forget that This Way North is a two-piece band. With Cat Leahy on drums and Leisha Jungalwalla wailing on her electric guitar, the duo create a uniquely full, expansive sound that leaves the audience stunned. Winning the Age Music Victoria award for Best Regional act at the end of 2018 off the back of their second EP release, This Way North has been dubbed the one's to watch in 2019. They have just released their brand new single 'Night Terrors' with a premiere on Triple J and to rave reviews from radio and industry personnel alike. // Sarah Burton’s (@sarahburtonshow) career started in 2006 with a broken heart, a broken down van, and a haphazard tour across Canada in a van named Lucky. This set the tone for an artist life driven by adventure, spontaneity, and a desire to connect with people from all walks of life. 3 Minivans, and several greyhound trips later, Sarah has played 200+ shows a year, released 4 albums and played many festivals across North America, finding and sharing the inspiration for hundreds of songs. Rooted in folk, and skirting pop, rock and country – Sarah’s music is a collage of her own adventures, and the people she meets along the way. // Canadian-born, France-based Selina Martin (@selina.martin.1) has independently produced and released 5 massively acclaimed albums and has been touring throughout Europe over the past year, writing and gathering ideas for her 6th. Her latest album “…caruso’s brain…” has been described variously by critics as “superb”, “brilliant”, “provocative”, “masterful”, and “genius”. // Aly Coy's (@alybarefootdaughtercoy) nomadic travels in Europe lead to an escape from an off-grid community in the woods in "unpacked: a memoir of checked baggage." Come for harrowing and hilarious excerpts read by author Aly Coy, actual film footage from her travels, with musical cello backing and interludes by songstress Trisha Spire.

19 DAYS LEFT!! We are proud to present Rebecca Margolick, Road Waves, and Saltwater Hank.

Musician Hannah Epperson (@hannahbbepperson) and choreographer Rebecca Margolick (@margolick) collaborate to create a genre-blending dance and music performance. Rebecca has toured her multi disciplinary and solo works internationally. They are joined by video and motion graphics designer Maxx Berkowitz.
At every show, Road Waves (@roadwavesband) is reaching for the stars and beyond to see what can be found. Although improvising a large portion of the sets and songs increases the possibility of creating unpleasant noises, they accept this risk in an effort to attain a mystical, continually evolving sound, feeling, and emotion that is most difficult to explain.
Born in Prince Rupert, BC and a member of the Gitga’at community, Tsimshian folk artist Saltwater Hank (@saltwaterhank) resurrects stories of the land, loss and absurd circumstance and shines them through a sepia lens, witnessing ageless characters with hearts and lives on the line.

We’re almost out of the roaring 20s - 20 days left until ARTSWELLS! We are happy to introduce the next batch of artists: Peter Paul Van Camp, Nora Curiston, and Orit Shimoni.

If Peter Paul Van Camp, the congenial Rhymester, can make one claim, it is this. He will not only steal your heart, but return it, cleaned and pressed. For nearly five decades, he has graced the coffeehouses, the college campuses, the Folk Clubs as well as the major and regional Folk Festivals of Canada, from Vancouver Island to Newfoundland. Oh, and all of those house concerts! He remains one of the last half-dozen fully bespectacled Declaimists on the circuit, and his motto will always be....”My Best Effort Today, and Better Luck Next Time.” // Nora Curiston is a visual artist living and working in Grand Forks, British Columbia. A self-proclaimed ‘late bloomer’, she graduated from Vancouver’s Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in 2007 at the age of 55. Curiston began her schooling at Emily Carr as a largely self-taught painter desiring some hardnosed technical training as well as input from other artists. Once at school she gravitated towards sculpture and installation work and credits artist and instructor Liz Magor as having a major influence on her artistic development. The little town of Wells, B.C. has also played an important role in Curiston’s career. She has attended the Toni Onley Artist Project three times and each time credits it with a significant resurgence in her career. Although she still loves to paint, her work is now primarily conceptual. She spends her time creating her sometimes difficult and quirky sculptures and outdoor installations. // Orit Shimoni (@oritbirdie) has been a full-time touring singer and songwriter, living out of her suitcase and slinging stunning songs for a decade, in both Canada and Europe. With 9 highly acclaimed albums and a tenth on the way, she hasn't run out of things to sing about yet!

Been travelling from Laval, Quebec to Charlottetown, P.E.I and passing through Fredericton in NB. It’s been a great trip but if you are like me playing the guitar almost everyday, well you will miss playing your favorite instrument. So a new possibility opened to me, a travel guitar. And guess what i found on my way entering both cities...

Only 21 days to go! We’re pleased to present Linda McRae, Mourning Coup & Naomi Shore.

BC‘s Entertainment Hall of Fame Pioneer Artist Linda McRae (@lmcrae42) is a genuine storyteller with an international touring career spanning over three decades. McRae’s deep rich voice is described as an instrument of remarkable emotional depth. Her unforgettable melodies and thought-provoking lyrics, imbued with compassion, love and wonder, carve their way into the heart. Her musicianship on claw hammer banjo, guitar and accordion distinguishes her as one of the true, soulful pioneers of honest roots music. // Mourning Coup (@mourningcoup) is a classic rock tribute band commonly mistaken for experimental pop. Spear-headed by Chandra Melting Tallow, Blackfoot visual artist and producer, mastering the art of psychic defence as song writing. In 2015 Mourning Coup released their debut LP "Baby Blue" on No Sun Recordings. // Hailing from Northern British Columbia and having toured Canada and Australia relentlessly over the last seven years (with Twin Peaks) Naomi Shore (@naomishoremusic) is now branching out with her first solo release "Piece by Piece". With a backing band made up of Jodie Ponto and Noah Walker (a.k.a. Kitty & the Rooster) and captured in their delicate glory by Corwin Fox, this album is bold in its fearless vulnerability.

There is a ukulele missing from my wall this day. I took a nasty fall while skating the bike path and managed to land on my favourite (not to mention most expensive) little string box. Put a couple of nasty cracks in the body. I have no pictures of the actual damage, as I brought it to #longandmcquade immediately. Apparently it's fixable. Ugh. Looking forward to the reunion.

For those just discovering me, you’ve joined me on a journey that’s many years long now. After the initial 7 years of singing lessons as a yout (4-11), I fell into rapping, production and recording music while balancing job after job after job... McDonalds,’ Bulk Barn, Starbucks, Burger King, Sushi Houses, Warehouses, Resident Advisor @fanshawecollege, Credit Card Sales & Acquisitions ... morning shifts, evening shifts, overnights... all while finding my sound, voice, the time to build my empire and the money from these jobs to invest back into my craft. It’s been a grind. After nearly 4 years of working for @longandmcquade | @lm_brampton (where I’ve learned an unreal amount and have spent the last few years educating myself and growing), I’m proud to say I’m stepping away from full time work and I’m going to be a FULL TIME MUSICIAN! Music finally gets to be my main priority, and I’m so grateful for this opportunity that many talented individuals never get because society says so. I hope to continue to carve out a path that other creatives can follow as I’m so passionate about entrepreneurship. I’ve been consistent at LM since June 2015. We celebrate Friday May 3rd at The Drake Underground (ticket link in bio) - Come by LM in Brampton the following day to celebrate my last ‘shift’: Saturday May 4th 💔

For those just discovering me, you’ve joined me on a journey that’s many years long now. After the initial 7 years of singing lessons as a yout (4-11), I fell into rapping, production and recording music while balancing job after job after job... McDonalds,’ Bulk Barn, Starbucks, Burger King, Sushi Houses, Warehouses, Resident Advisor @fanshawecollege , Credit Card Sales & Acquisitions ... morning shifts, evening shifts, overnights... all while finding my sound, voice, the time to build my empire and the money from these jobs to invest back into my craft.
