Today has been a better day in many respects. It has involved a lot of conversations with many different people, but overall they have been positive/ had a positive effect on me. After reading a post on The Mighty website I have developed ‘Ami’s Getting Better Plan’. It covers many different aspects, but I’m definitely feeling more positive and determined than I was yesterday. Should really have started it by getting a good nights sleep but that’ll have to wait till tomorrow! Good night all!

    alguna vez en nuestra vida hemos pasado una noche en vela sin poder dormir ya sea por irnos de juerga hasta que cierren la discoteca, por los nervios del examen de mañana, porque algún vecino ha montado una fiesta en casa, por estar enfermos, por consultar con la almohada más de la cuenta o por engancharnos a alguna serie de Netflix y querer ver «sólo un capítulo más»… Pero ¿qué pasa cuando esto se convierte en rutina? ¿La falta de sueño o la mala calidad del mismo tiene consecuencias para nuestro cerebro? ¿Puede alterar las funciones cognitivas?

EL SUEÑO NORMAL

Al contrario de lo que pueda parecer, el sueño no es un fenómeno pasivo, es necesaria la activación de diversas áreas cerebrales(predominantemente localizadas en diencéfalo y el troncoencéfalo) para que se produzca un sueño normal.

Las principales características de las diferentes fases del sueño son (Tirapu, 2012): Fase I (Sueño superficial): Se perciben la mayoría de los estímulos que suceden a nuestro alrededor. Este sueño es poco o nada reparador. El tono muscular está disminuido y aparecen movimientos oculares lentos.

Fase II (Sueño superficial): Se produce un bloqueo de los inputs sensoriales en el tálamo, por lo que hay una desconexión del entorno. Es parcialmente reparador, pero no es suficiente para descansar completamente.     Janelle was perfectly content with reading books and sitting quietly. I wanted to be like that so badly. I often wondered why I couldn’t just sit still and be content with reading a book in my room. Why did I have to be so jumpy? Why couldn’t I be quiet, reserved, and more gentle like Janelle? I always thought that if I could be more like her, I could be included in my older sisters’ conversations. I was always on the outside.

So when Janelle said that I could accompany her on her drive to Orlando, Florida in her stick shift VW beetle one summer, I couldn’t contain my excitement. I was jumping up and down. I was determined to be the best driver’s assistant. When Janelle got tired while driving, I told her I could drive for her, even though I didn’t have a license. My sister simply smiled at me and said, “No, but you could tell me some jokes.” I thought, I can do that! I told jokes, we laughed a ton, and I talked to her to keep her awake. We had the best time. When we got to Florida, my sister said, “Thanks for keeping me company, I don’t think I could have made it without you.” Wow, that felt so good.

I discovered something during our drive that day. I already knew that I had the gift of gab, but had it not been for my ability to gab, I could not have helped Janelle. That was a simple yet profound moment that stayed with me for years.

Your body is engineered for balance. Finding equilibrium between strength and flexibility as well as effort and ease optimizes potential in not only yoga but also life. Strength is dependent on flexibility — you can’t access the full power of your muscles if they lack range of motion. And flexibility is dependent on strength — you can’t safely access your range of motion without stability.

The second two contracts, ‘Ana and Andrew: Series Two’ and ‘Sheroes: Series One’ were secured in late 2018. In the past two years I’ve written twelve children’s books on Black culture as well as women’s history. 🙌🏾 My thirteen book on the life of MLK is intended for middle grade readers.     Ahora más que nunca comprendo cuando dicen “Lo importante no es llegar a la meta... sino disfrutar el camino” ... en esta vida no hay “Metas”, solo “Caminos”, caminos que inician y terminan, caminos que te traen cosas buenas, cosas malas, éxitos y aprendizajes... pero insisto.. no hay Metas, porque cuando llegas a lo que tú crees que es la meta, se abre un camino completamente nuevo... Y me di cuenta que cuando logro ver la vida de esa forma, todo cambia... las preocupaciones se vuelven insignificantes, el estrés desparece y las dichas del camino del presente pasan a primer plano... por eso... dejemos de preocuparnos y estresarnos por lograr metas y mejor disfrutemos del camino.. que es hoy, es ahora y es hermoso! #thoughtoftheday #motivation #enjoytheride
