Seeing Japanese snow monkey bathing in onsen was one of my bucket list, yes quite often see it on Nat Geo ~ and always wonder how I can see their cuteness in the wild.

Finally, our last winter trip to Japan we put Jigokudani Monkey Park on our itinerary. Our trip started early from Shinjuku station with JR East Nagano Niigata Area Pass. Made our way to Tokyo station to board the Shinkasen to Nagano station. Journey was about 2 hours. Once we get to Nagano station, we took a bus (Nagaden express bus) that took us right to the foothills. Once we get to the foothills, we need to hike (about 10-15 min) until we arrived to the entrance of another hike which will bring us to the park. The hike though 1.6 km don't sound like a big deal, but it's not an easy hike especially if it snowed or is snowing. It can get slippery. We need about 40 min to hike, and when we got there we were ssurprised by the number of monkeys that were there. The monkeys weren’t afraid to tourists at all. They looked for food scattered in the snow and when they’re not they were lying on the hot pipes or relaxing in the onsen (hot springs). Seeing breath-taking scenery during the hike and the monkeys in the onsen or simply just chasing each other around is quite a sight to behold. What an amazing experience! It took much effort, but it much worth it :) watch full video on:

📍 United Kingdom 🇬🇧 This is an example of what I like to call ‘extreme bracketing’ - a blend of exposures to show the different range of contrast across the scene here at the Queens House in Greenwich.
