FOX NEWS - A Canadian family decided to keep driving when its 87-year-old patriarch died in the backseat of their car while returning home from a Florida vacation last month to avoid paying for U.S. health care, reports said.
When Fernand Drapeau’s wife and son reached the U.S.-Canada border on March 31, authorities stopped and searched the car. Inside they found Drapeau, who appeared to have died from a heart attack at least a day before arriving at the border, the Vancouver Sun reported.
The family cited the high cost of U.S. health care, plus the cost of shipping the body back to Quebec as the reason for not stopping at a hospital, CTV News reported.
Border officials said it was the first time that such an incident has occurred.
No charges have yet been filed in the case. Authorities are continuing to investigate.

Don't be shy! Let your patients get to know you before they even call to set up their first appointment! Chances are they'll be more likely to call too. Most of the time it only takes one lifelong patient to pay for your media package, so what have you got to lose!

Who you are outside of the dental office is just as important to your patients as your skills in the dental office. I include beautiful footage of doctors in their happy places whenever possible in practices videos to help potential patients get to know them better.

I had a patient stop in to see me this morning. I knew exactly who she was as soon as I opened my door to her, although I'd never seen her. We had chatted a few times last week and I had given her situation focus. Before she could even introduce herself, I was able to give her more great news today, which I thought was why she came to see me. But it wasn't, at all. She came to tell me that I was an inspiration to her and that she would love to work for me someday, if I ever had a place for her on my team. She said she wasn't qualified to be an advocate, despite her degrees and certifications in other fields, but she wanted to learn anything I was willing to teach her.
I didn't even know what to say, other that I'd love to have her on my team, if I ever had a position open. This woman is retired, she paid her dues, she had her career and lived her ideal life... And she wants to leave retirement to work for me? And I was humbled. Here's the thing, you do not need a degree to be a voice for others, you only need the passion to do it.
I have spent too much time lately, questioning my value in what I do, where I am at. The handful of people I help every day, doesn't seem like much to many, I'm always expected to do more. But to those few people, I have given knowledge, kindness and hope. I have changed their world and they have changed mine. I am incredibly grateful for them all.

Doctors are often surprised by how willingly their patients come in to do testimonials. Treat your patients like family and they'll happily become your biggest cheerleaders...because that's what family does.
