Holy Cross Faith Ambassadors have been involved in an event in the Millgate shopping centre in Bury today organised by GMP for the Anti-Hate Crime Action Week.

They spoke eloquently about their faith and the importance of mutual understanding and respect over ignorance, fear and prejudice.

Two of the students were also interviewed for a TV interview. #hatecrime #hatecrimeawareness #hatecrimeawarenessweek #college #holycrosscollege #bury #students

Today @parrenthornhigh we spent the day with Year 9 #Bury students looking at Equality and the 9 protected characteristics included in the Equalities Act 2010.

We asked 'do you think -isms such as racism, sexism and homophobia could ever fly be erased?'. The resounding response was 'no' - so how do we move towards a society where the majority of us are accepting and advocates for the rights of others? We make a promise to never stop fighting... (SE)

What I love more than anything is little impromptu lessons.
Things we didn't plan, that just pop up as we go about our daily lives.

Today my youngest and I were on our way to a Playcentre when we spotted a bunch of stands. Curiously we approached to see what it was about, when one of the people running it stopped to chat with us.
He explained that the stands were there to try and raise awareness about hate crime and all the different kinds.
He showed Aimee some posters that had been designed by local schools and she voted for her favourite, and we both signed the book pledging to always do our best to stop hate crimes.

He explained how often Hate Crimes go unreported, often due to fear of the stigma attached, or through fear of retribution... We talked about LGBTQ, about racism, etc, we talked about how anyone can be a target for Hate Crime but that certain groups experience it more... And we talked about how important it is to always be kind.

When I asked my daughter what we should write in the book she told me to put 'People should just be kind!' Out of the mouths of babes!
