New shop, who dis?? I come back from my 2 1/2 week excursion down under to find my shop renovations are pretty much done! I’ve still got a bit of organizing to do, so excuse the clutter, but so far everything is coming together nicely! The bench is a custom job that’s modeled after a bench in the #plek room at Glaser Instruments I had. Each bench top is lined with carpet to protect the instruments, and I have the flexibility to be working on up to 5 instruments in progress at once. Plus it’s a long enough bench that there’s room for storage on the shelves as well. Highly recommended for my fellow loothers out there. I also did some re-rigging of my quiet cable switching system thanks to the addition of my new custom made cables from @bettermusic.au (thanks Michael!). There’s a quick video demo included to show it in action. I’m not quite back to full operational status yet, but I’m almost there. Just a few more tweaks.

When I first started learning guitar work 15 years ago, this is the first thing I was shown. 409 and a toothbrush are Step 1 for grimed up fingerboards. While everyone else cries "heresy," I'll be at Wal-Mart getting some refills. #409 #guitar #guitartech #clean

This lil’ beauty just arrived via @stewmac_guitar to go with the new drill press. Please Note: I haven’t been posting much because I was hospitalized for 3 days. I came down with bad case of lower lung pneumonia, but I will still be taking on setups and small repairs. Pick-up and drop-off appointments can be made as well. I will be returning to the grind Friday; May 24th. I can’t wait to be in my element functioning at 100% health again! 🙏💉❤️🎸💪 #guitarrepair #guitartech #luthier #iheartlutherie #guitar #strength#determination #lovewhatido

The “bench” so to speak. Want to get the tuners mounted on the wall just so their out of the way. Got the @orangeamplifiers micro crush for checking guitars after wiring and what not. Got a set of draws underneath with spares, more tools. Also my show box is there. More pics to come soon! #guitartech #guitartechnician #guitarworkshop #techlife

Ok, show and tell time. This is the first guitar I ever owned. When I was in 5th grade, I traded my old Power Wheels Jeep for this guitar, as well as an amp, a cable, and a guitar stand. My mom wouldn't let me ride the Jeep anymore, because there had been a recall issued for the rechargable battery (something about them spontaneously bursting into flames I guess), and I had pretty much grown out of it anyways. When I first got this guitar, it was metallic red and covered in Beavis and Butt-Head stickers. It never really sounded great, and I didn't know enough back then to know if it was the guitar or the amp, or how to go about fixing it. Eventually, I got a different guitar and taught myself how to play. Later on, when I was in high school, I decided I was going to fix my old red guitar up. I didn't have the know-how to diagnose the big hump at the end of the fingerboard (let along fix it), but I gutted it, painted it white, and handed it off to a friend of mine to decorate. He did all of the designs in sharpie marker. Whatever I used to clear coat it has yellowed real bad over the years. I think I ended up sticking a used BC Rich humbucker in it and playing it for awhile. I've been winding more pickups lately, so I decided to revive this guitar to use as a demo guitar for new pickups. I wired it up with a solderless quick connector to allow for easy pickup swapping. I've also fixed the non-functional truss rod, and replaced the tuners. I'm debating whether or not I should level the board and refret it. Either way, it's been a lot of fun to have this thing up and running again.

It might look like the cnc is doing all the work, but I had to press all of the right buttons for it to happen. Actually @galactic_pizza_head pressed all of the right buttons, I just pressed “Start.”
