    Fresh out of surgery!

Waiting on some black straplocks from Schaller, but the main repairs/modifications are done:
Ripped out the dead tone knob and bumped over the selector to make room for an @iron_age_guitar killswitch and installed 2 coil taps. The @seymourduncanpickups Invader in the bridge splits beautifully to produce a perfect twangy overwound Tele tone. I'd considered replacing the stock @officialibanezguitars neck pickup with something more fancy, but the pickup actually has a nice bright quality to it which reminds me of a lower output Dimarzio DActivator like I had and loved in my long gone Xyphos . It's grown on me so I decided to keep it. It's only a 2 conductor though, so we went into the insulation to make it splittable. It creates a thin tone when split, surprisingly closer to a Strat middle, which is perfect for high string funk/soul and Talking Heads-esque single note lines. The middle position split variations are more subtle than I expected, but the double split sounds straight up mid pos Tele. It's gone from a great straight forward rocker to a dynamic nuanced hot rodded beast.
The great thing is, when it's facemelt time, all I need to do is re-engage the Invader's second coil and the output spikes, much like the blow switch on my "Beast" Tele. Bummed I can't fly with her to Rebellion but excited to give her her stage debut next month in Pittsburgh at Skull Fest!

My first restoration. My first guitar. Flood damaged through Harvey. Started as a Squier strat. Repainted, replaced the old neck with a thicker maple one. Replaced the original bridge with an old steel block. New wiring. Vintage pickups from an old olympic brand guitar. I haven't been able to identify them but they sound good. #guitarmodification #surfguitar

#guitarmods Night in with my pre-1976 #vintageibanez 2375. I thought this would be a quick loaded-scratchplate style swap, but frustratingly Ibanez decided to run the wiring cavity across the bottom of the cable rout (meaning that I’ll have to get longer cables and rewire the harness). The sought-after Maxon branded pickups are there. Taking the old girl apart has confirmed what I was told by my Japanese vintage guitar guru - that it’s a mahogany body with a thin maple veneer on the front and back. (We’ll see what effect that’s had on the huge tone of that guitar when the pickups are installed in the Canadian alder replacement body. Still, it’ll be interesting to see how that effects the Coodercaster that the body is being made into with a different rosewood neck). #stratocaster #partsstrat #guitarproject #guitarmods #guitarmodification

In light of all the Gibson controversy I thought this would be fun to share... I’ve been working on a crazy rags to riches adventure with this Maestro SG and it’s been one of my favorite projects thus far. The bare bones of a lot of these are pretty solid so I wanted to see what I could make of it! It’s amazing what some dowels and some paint can do haha. This one is going to end up being more a strat disguised as an SG.

#guitarmods Out goes the bastard heavy Ibanez body I’ve got currently and in comes a new alder one in blue. Will this need a bit of ageing to match my yellowed ‘76 guard and Maxon pickups? I think we know the answer to that question. #guitarproject #guitarmodification

Huge shoutout to my student, Enrique, for completely rebuilding his first guitar (Lotus L680R)! Big lesson to learn here is: done be afraid to mod your guitar! Changing the bridge, tuners, or pickups could make a BIG difference to your tone! If you want to see Enrique’s full guitar-modding process, you can go to his page (@mr_rosell ) and see the “strat rebuild” highlight! #GetTunedIn
