If there’s one thing folks may know about me, it’s that I hate guitar pedals. ⁣
⁣
In fact, I’ve made it my life’s mission to acquire as many of them as financially feasible (and sometimes not) just to spare my musical brethren from the terrible and unholy rabbit hole that is guitar pedal fixation. But I digress. ⁣
⁣
As far back as I can remember, I’ve placed an almost obsessive emphasis on ways to “enhance” my sound through pedal application. A little delay here, some phaser texture there, and pepper in some “oh shit- this one sounds like Cthulhu playing an oboe in the bathtub” and you’ve essentially spelled out the last few years of my music career. But these days when I sit down for some solo jams after a long day of not understanding JavaScript, I’ve been putting these ideas on the back burner in favor of some raw, unadulterated tones. No delay pedals to mask the fuck ups, no deep canyon reverbs, no walls of fuzz to summon the elder gods and transdimensional demons, just straight up guitar -> amplifier. ⁣
⁣
I’d like to think I’ve tapped into a whole new methodology and deeper understanding of guitar playing, but then I remind myself that folks have been playing stringed instruments unencumbered by fancy effects and tube amps for wayyyy longer than Fender Twins and sweet delay pedals have been around. But anyway, here’s me noodling over a bassline (that I made with my DigiTech Whammy pedal) and making some real tangy guitar faces. And if you swipe over you’ll see a photo I took of someone’s dog in the parking lot at Hannaford a few days ago. ⁣

Our great friend @alex.james.lord from @homeseekerband took some incredible shots of us at our show together on Saturday. We have a ton of pics so we will be posting a bunch of them throughout the week. Almost makes you feel like you were there...almost. Next time be there! Next show this Saturday, Mini Upstate Fest at Inside Out Tavern.

Oh man, I get an absolutely beautiful Brian Ray SG and a couple of weeks later, BOOM! There’s another absolutely beautiful Brian Ray SG released! I’ve had many Les Pauls in my life and never properly clicked with any, but I think SG’s are my jam. They have that Gibson rock n roll tone, but they’re lighter and more comfortable to play.

    🎼 Don't Let Me Down 🎼
-The Beatles
Here's a short improvised solo I played over (possibly) my favourite Beatles song. This was heavily inspired by John Mayer, as I've been trying to break out of playing in minor pentatonics, let me know what you think! 🌅
