Meet Kay Shand!! 👋

Kay is a newer member of AF Altona North, Kay has  been with us for about 1.5 months. Since the get go, she has been in the club training consistently 4-5 times per week! We love her bubbly personality and seeing her smile each time she pops in for a workout 🏃‍♀️💦☺️!! She says “I LOVE the atmosphere at Anytime Fitness Altona North. I believe in a 3D approach to exercise - the mind, body and spirit should all be aligned. Exercise brings balance and clarity to the mind and I’m always looking forward to my next workout. For anyone thinking about joining it’s never too late to start!” Apart from weight loss, and toned muscles there are so many other benefits to exercise!!     Throwback to a few weeks ago when I finally hit that 100kg hip thrust club 💯 I hadn’t done a working set of 100kg EVER but I thought I’ll just try and see what happens cause I know I’m capable of more than I think I am. Ended up smashing out 5 reps with great form 😮 I was stuck on 60-70kg hip thrusts for so long, like a year.. cause I was too scared to progress or that I was going to feel it more in my quads but nope! I did 4 sets of 100kg x 8 reps the other week and my glutes were on fire! So this is my message to you to stop being nervous or scared to lift heavier weights because trust me, your body can do so many things and is capable of so many things! It’s our mind that stops us 😋 Can’t wait to get back into it next week and start smashing it again 🙌🏻 I’m going to start incorporating some hiit/ cardio more cause honestly I miss it and it’s not like I’m prepping for a competition or anything so I’m going to focus on the things I love and enjoy 🥳 Have a great night guys and gals 💓

    ***TIME TO GET SWEATY*** Nice little bodyweight hiit session never hurt anyone... much.

3 rounds with each rounds lasting 4 minutes. - 20 Jumping jacks
- 10 Jumping lunges (5/leg)
- 5 press ups

Complete as many rounds as you can in 4 minutes. Once 4 minutes is done take a minutes rest and repeat. Then again when finished take one minute rest and repaet once more.

    ***TIME TO GET SWEATY*** Nice little bodyweight hiit session never hurt anyone... much.

    It was only a few short months ago that I detested doing upper body workouts. Not because they sucked but because I sucked at them for not doing them enough!  My legs were my strong points and so I’d find myself hammering legs A LOT.  One Sunday, I sat down and as i usually do write out some goals for that following week. One of my goals was to be better at the things that I sucked at. Just try a little harder Dina no biggie. And so week by week working on the thing I sucked at I realised shit! I’m getting better! I’m gaining some stamina and strength up in here!😱
Honestly I wasn’t counting the weeks or months it took, i just took it day by day and today while I was enjoying my rest day stuffing my face with crackers,I walked past the mirror and there she was. A girl who once detested upper body day who now to remind herself not neglect leg day. Oh how things have changed!! 😊

Today was such a mental game... We ran our longest miles of the week on literally one highway (US 95) through the dry desert of Nevada. We decided to run in groups of four so we could get at least our 12 miles of the day in before the temperature would rise to deathly heat 😬 But, after remembering who we run for, we made it safely to LAS VEGAS! Rest day number 2 is tomorrow. Anyone tips to explore Vegas? ⠀

During our 4K why meeting last Tuesday, I was most impressed and shocked by my amazing teammate Lauren. She knew about the 4K because of her best friend’s roommate, who ran it last summer. Her best friend, Angela, was diagnosed with a tumor the size of a basketball just before that summer and doing really well during the 4K finish. However, she unexpectedly lost the battle last November... Today, I ran 12 miles for Angela! 🌸⠀
