    Have you heard of somniphobia? It’s the fear of going to sleep. And it’s a genuine phobia that lots of people have — although it’s rarely discussed. Somniphobia is most common among children who develop the fear after experiencing bad dreams. They’re afraid of falling asleep because they might have another nightmare.

You’re cozy in bed, your room is the perfect temperature, you’ve avoided exercise, and caffeine for hours before bed, and your electronic devices have been tucked away for at least an hour BUT YOU’RE WIDE AWAKE ☹️ The inability to fall asleep or stay asleep affects millions of people every night, Sleep insufficiency can contribute to a variety of chronic diseases, such as hypertension, diabetes, depression, and obesity, as well as cancer, increased mortality, and reduced quality of life and productivity.😴 Here is a military approved way to bring on that much needed sleep:

1️⃣Relax the muscles in your face, including the jaw, tongue and those around the eyes
2️⃣Let your shoulders drop, and relax both sides of the upper and lower arms
3️⃣Breathe out, keeping the chest relaxed
4️⃣Relax both the upper and lower parts of your legs

This sleep tool was mentioned in Loyd Bud Winter’s Book  Relax and Win: Championship Performance, The process also recommends that you envision yourself in certain, very relaxing situations such as “lying in a canoe on a calm lake, nothing but blue sky above you” and “snuggled in a black velvet hammock in a pitch-black room.” The technique also advises you to say a mantra like, “don’t think, don’t think, don’t think” over and over for ten seconds. The book recommends trying this for a few weeks every night to get really good at it.

Naturally, getting stressed about falling asleep is the quickest way to stay awake. If slumber evades you, get out of bed and read a book! You may also resolve to get more exercise or consider chiropractic care.
