Der Berg ruft! @asteroid_eb here, on Day 5 of our Biking Trip in Bavaria and Tyrol! Today we get even closer to the impressive mountain range of the 'Wilder Kaiser' which translates to 'Wild Emperor' and refers to the whole area having been imperial property back in the days. The history of first human settlement here even dates back 5000 years! We are so stoked to share some info about this gem of the Austrian Alps with you but we can't believe this week is almost over! Now we'll put on our finest Dirndl and Lederhosn and meet for one last drink. Prost! 🥂 #backroadsleaderlens #alps #wilderkaiser

I tried to sleep in this morning but now that I am on hiking time I’m up at 5 am. The birds, as usual, are busy chirping outside my window. Last night I decided to stay at A Safe Haven B&B (highly recommended) in Coleman instead of heading back up with CanaDoug to the GDT Association’s trail crew site. I had a few town chores to take care of this morning, and to send a resupply box Saskatchewan Pass.
At the B&B are two young hikers from Germany, and when I tell them my plan to hike the new GDT trail they ask if they can join me. I text CanaDoug on his InReach to make sure it’s okay that I bring some hiking “refugees” with me. He says it’s not problem, and the more hikers that hike the new trail the better.
We finish breakfast at the B&B, finish town chores, and then leave before 1 pm. It’s only 19 km to the GDT trail crew campsite and it’s an easy backcountry road-walk. As we are leaving town it begins to rain, and for the first 10 km it sprinkles off and on. We notice another hiker behind us, and he eventually catches up to us at the Atlas Staging Area. Jeff is also hiking the GDT and is from London, Ontario. He hikes with us for the rest of the afternoon, and when we tell him about our plan he decides to join us.
About 2 hours into our hike CanaDoug shows up in his truck to check on us because it’s been raining hard up at camp. CanaDoug is just that guy, dependable and always thinking what’s best for hikers, and I ask him if he’s okay with slack-packing us. This is a new concept to my hiking companions, but one they are eager to try out. Niels, one of my German companions, is so excited about this “slack-pack” that he considers taking it as his trail name.
Without our packs we pick up our pace and arrive in camp at 5:30 pm. Our evening is filled with laughs, a lot of shared stories with the GDT crew, and CanaDoug cooks up a steak for me. What a guy that CanaDoug is, eeeeeh?

#throwback to this gorgeous lake. Wish we had more time to hang out here. Had to make it back down before it got dark. It rained all day and the sun decided to come out when we started our hike down!

Definitely coming back here before summer ends!

We’ve been scrubbing floorboards at the new house today, a slightly less glam day than yesterday.

🌲 Went camping for the first time in a while this morning and I think Courtney probably got sick of me saying, “I love trees.” 🌲

There's no I in T-E-A-M! Here's what one of our stoked adventurers had to say: "I did this trip as a team building experience with a group from our office. The scenery was spectacular and the organization is first class. Our guide (Leon) managed to remain calm and charming while navigating us through fast moving and big water. I would definitely do this trip again!" 🤩 Thank you Aba for your review! 🌊 Book your team building experience with us today

Another tour around the sun has come and gone for me today. 1 year older and I do feel just a tiny bit wiser. I've learned from my mistakes and made plenty new ones this past year, all of which have taught me important lessons. I'm grateful to be where I am today and hope that this next year will bring me many new opportunities and many more travels🌞 happy birthday to me🎉

We've absolutely loved watching @theworldwithsarah test her Apex Flex 2.0 jacket in some of the worst weather she could find this summer. Here's to staying stoked when you're getting soaked. #NeverStopExploring

⠀
The best smoothie bowl I’ve ever had!💗Pitaya and rose water 🌹🤤Soo good!
⠀
⠀
🔸Bakker Bart -
