    NOPE.

When managing your online presence and engaging in the response of your market, sometimes all you need is a good 'ol NOPE.

Many leaders misunderstand that just because someone has decided to provide commentary on their thought leadership that you're automatically obliged to engage in it. NOPE.

These leaders often feel in a constant state of defence; like they need to defend their position, their qualifications and their worthiness for discussing the topic at hand. NOPE.

Like they have to spend time trying to educate people who simply don't want to be educated, but would rather complain, or are hellbent on being right at all costs, instead of interested in engaging in quality dialogue from a perspective of sharing and learning. NOPE.

Want to know a secret? High calibre leaders don't buy into any of this.

    Instead:

    1. Be empowered in your online spaces and set the standards you expect of those who are guests there. Anyone who doesn't align to that can and will self select out. Quality of engagement matters - it sets the tone.

    2. Be clear on your own personal standards for engagement - what's worth your time engaging in? What is important for you to respond to? What value is this commentary adding to the conversation? Block and delete at will, if necessary. Know when to politely end a conversation. And also don't feel the need to respond to people's autobot comments or meaningless emoticons. If they can't be bothered taking the time to invest in meaningful engagement on the topic at hand, that's not something you need to invest your time in either.

    3. Always be open to learning no matter how successful you are. Sometimes you'll be the most knowledgable in a room, sometimes the least knowledgable. Regardless, learning can happen for any one of us in the most unexpected of places.

“If the truth shall kill them, let them die” - Immanuel Kant.

Someone I admire deeply shared this quote and there's a whole philosophical conversation about truthfulness in it. However, we can also apply it to developing your true leadership brand.

One of the biggest problems that many clients struggle with underneath it all is the congruency between who they truly are, who they think the world wants them to be and how to present that to their market. It's deeply personal; their identity, their self.

Because how long can someone keep up a facade of pretending they are someone they're not? If you've tried it for a good length of time, you will know how excruciating it is.
It manifests personally and professionally: you end up working with people who don't value you. You make less money. You feel constantly rejected and dejected. And one day you wake up to realise you've based your entire life, brand and self worth around people who aren't your people and will NEVER champion you. Feel it?

In this context, this quote captures the beautiful moment where you realise that the truth of yourself has to be told - it needs to be told, it can't go another day being untold and there's a whole section of the world out there waiting for it.

I bet the white men and white women looking at this are feeling enraged that Asian men and Asian women on average make more money than them. I'm going to ask them to feel that rage, take a moment, take a deep breath... and think about how everyone who falls in the other categories feels... #Repost @timesupnow

Vanilla will never be the new go-to brand.

Despite it being widely discussed and agreed that the key to business and leadership success in the modern world is differentiation, it doesn’t take much of a peruse to realise the business and leadership landscape is still largely saturated in vanilla.

If you just want to build a solid business doing nothing particularly remarkable, but delivering run of the mill, good quality services to the clients you have, then outside the box distinction is going to be less important to you.

If you want to disrupt and innovate, change the world, and build a timeless brand that ultimate legacies are made from – and reap the rewards of doing so - it’s simply not possible without clear market distinction.

The Oxford dictionary announced the 2018 word of the year is: toxic.

Honestly? We've hit peak toxicity in our public discussion on matters of paramount importance to the world across many platforms and spheres of professional and personal life.

It's to the point where we can't open a newspaper, peruse social media, turn on the radio or television without the latest scandal, public shaming, rant or divisive conversation smacking us in the face.

And honestly? There are many crucial and, in some cases, unprecedented problems that we as a modern world are trying to work through. In order to work through them, we naturally need to talk about them. It's more the standards we hold for the way we go about our discussion. If we focus on problems, without solutions, it merely amplifies the problem.

    So here's what we're doing for 2019.

We're only going to invest our time in high quality conversations with leaders, people and on platforms who are genuinely focused on solutions.

    Who are open and empathetic.
Who are willing to fully participate in high quality dialogue, hear all sides and explore all possibilities.
Who believe that people are not always the sum of the mistakes they make.

Who believe in the potential and possibility for a better world and are striving towards it.

Who are genuinely committed to walking their talk and initiating action and practices aligned to high personal values and integrity.

Because connecting and working with these kind of people is the stuff that world changing is made of. And that's the stuff we want to invest our energy into.

If you're one of these people, welcome. We look forward to connecting further with you.

I hope it’s not just me who would like to see this happen sooner. At this rate my children might not even get to experience equal pay and that’s such a heart breaking thought. Don’t only fight for you but fight for the next generations. No one should be payed less just because of their gender •
