True Navy Coffee: A pinch of salt.

Back in 1914, Secretary of the Navy Josephus Daniels signed General Order 99, prohibiting alcohol from ships. Coffee has replaced the old daily rum ration ever since and Sailors began calling it " a cup of Joe" in his honor.

Rumors abound that the secret to true "Navy Coffee" is to add a pinch of salt to grounds to cut the initial bitterness and to drink it strong and black.

While there is currently no evidence to support this theory, there's no shortage of online debate from old Sailors who will swear up and down that true "Navy Coffee" comes with a pinch of salt.
In this photo, U.S. Navy WAVES officers are treated to some coffee while touring a blimp at Naval Air Station, Lakehurst, New Jersey, during World War II. And while we'll never know if it was brewed with salt, we can only wonder.

How do you take your coffee? Do you use a pinch of salt? Or something else? Tell us in the comments below.

“So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people. Prepare a noble death song for the day when you go over the great divide.

Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place. Show respect to all people and grovel to none.

When you arise in the morning, give thanks for the food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself. Abuse no one and no thing, for abuse turns the wise ones to fools and robs the spirit of its vision.

When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.” - Tecumseh

There’s a lot of hours in one day. How do you use yours? I’ve met so many negative people in my life who complain so much but never do anything about it. If you hate the situation you are in, there is sooo many hours in one day to change your life. Yes, you will have to sacrifice sleep, sacrifice the parties, the lavish weekend lifestyle and the video games you love to play. ⁣
⁣
Complaining or blaming others will not change anything or make you achieve your dream. If you say there’s not enough time then wake up earlier! Find your passion and do that! No reason to live life doing jobs you hate. How can I say all this? Because I lived it! Ive worked two full time jobs and went to school full time to get the civilian career that I want during a crashing economy. I literally did not have any days off, none! I wish I did it earlier in life but at least I realized, I stopped complaining and I execute. ⁣
⁣
Hope you are having an awesome Monday friends! 💪⚓️✌️

Littoral Combat Ship 21 (Minneapolis-Saint Paul) Christened And Launched

The Lockheed Martin-led shipbuilding team launched Littoral Combat Ship (LCS) 21, the future USS Minneapolis-Saint Paulinto the Menominee River at the Fincantieri Marinette Marine Shipyard. Ship sponsor Jodi J. Greene, Deputy Under Secretary of the U.S. Navy for Policy, christened LCS 21 just prior to launch. "LCS is the second largest ship class in the U.S. Navy, and Lockheed Martin is proud to deliver capability and added force projection with each additional hull," said Joe DePietro, Lockheed Martin vice president and general manager of Small Combatants and Ship Systems. "LCS is ready to serve a variety of missions, and our team is working with the Navy to add lethality and survivability enhancements to meet the missions sailors will face in the future." Unique among combat ships, LCS is designed to complete close-to-shore missions and is a growing and relevant part of the U.S. Navy's fleet.

It is flexible—with 40 percent of the hull easily reconfigurable, LCS can be modified to integrate capabilities including over-the-horizon missiles, advanced electronic warfare systems and decoys, and in the future, vertical launching systems or laser weapon systems.

It is fast—capable of speeds in excess of 40 knots.

It is automated—with the most efficient staffing of any combat ship.

It is lethal—standard equipped with Rolling Airframe Missiles (RAM) and a Mark 110 gun, capable of firing 220 rounds per minute. Paul

December 12, 2018 was a day full of excitement and emotion for me. I was beyond blessed to be able to travel to Mexico and take my very first Whitetail buck and first buck with a bow. This amazing 7 year old BRUTE of a #whitetail at the #ranchocuevas is still giving me the shakes 24 hours after. Thank you first and foremost to God for giving us this amazing animal. I’d like to thank Jose Laguna for keeping me in mind and inviting me down here. Thank you to Mr. Jim Woodward for opening his ranch and home to us. To Mark Budsize for putting me on this deer. A very special thank you to Johnny Ressinger, my guide, for filming and walking me through every step of the way. You helped me plan, visualize and execute a precise and lethal shot! Also, to the great @rogerraglin for having us here and on his show!! One of my biggest Thank You’s goes to @leadingedgearchery and @jshamlin88 for helping me ensure my equipment was ready and set for this hunt, even if it was a bit last minute.
We hunted this buck the first day and spotted him early on in the afternoon. We got into the blind around 3pm and waited.......but got stood up, so we decided to help eradicate some of the hog problem. Wednesday morning was cool and extremely foggy, but the stage was set for us and clear enough 40 yards around our blind. We waited a couple hours and chatted about the best shot placement and positions. As I sat there putting my pin on other big bucks to get a mental picture, I heard Johnny say the three best words of the day with great excitement.....”He’s Here, Get Ready”. One final range check with the @athlonoptics range finder and I was ready. Nothing had prepared me for the jitters that took over me as this old warrior walked out 10 yards in front of me towards the fence! Every single deer around the small patch of corn scattered. I drew back and held for what seemed a week until I heard the command ...”Shoot Him!” I punched the @truball_axcel release and my @victory_archery Xtorsion arrow flew true out of the @elitearchery #enlist and found its mark at 21 yds....the rest was history! It all took about 20 seconds but 24 hours later, I still can’t believe it. 258lbs 146-2/8” #hunting
