Last Friday, we rushed Gatsby to the emergency vet because he suddenly didn’t want to walk and was crying out in extreme pain. The emergency vet told us it was likely a disc issue related to his neck. We were sent home with some medication and were told to restrict activity for 4 weeks. He was mostly fine the following two days, but yesterday, he started having extreme pain again. •
I rushed him to the neurologist and they kept him overnight to run some tests (MRI and a spinal tap). The MRI showed a bulged disc in his neck (between C2-C3), as well as the top of his spine. Fortunately, it’s mild enough that the neurologist does not think surgery is appropriate at this time. We will be treating it medically for the next several weeks and we’ll continue to monitor him. •
We are still waiting for results from the spinal tap (to rule out meningitis) before he can be discharged from the hospital. The MRI has ruled out tumors/cysts. •
He is in good hands at the hospital and the staff and neurologist are taking fantastic care of him (they even texted us pics this morning). He’s eating well and is comfortable and not in pain (they’re giving him the good stuff). We expect to bring him home tomorrow.
