Just in time for #flashbackfriday . I came across this video and knew it had to be shared. It can be hard to put into context how videos of myself NOW are not how I’ve always been when it comes to lifting. This was taken in January 2013 compared with myself squatting recently in March 2019. As cringeworthy as it is for me to watch the first video, there are just so many things wrong here 😂, I think it’s important to take note that EVERYONE is a beginner at some point.
.
.
Lifting is a skill which requires deliberate practice again and again to learn the correct movement pattern. Progress does come overnight, however, do that regularly for YEARS and you will undoubtedly get better. Notice how in 2013 I had no control of my pelvis, shaky on the way down, and looking TO THE SIDE in the mirror, while 20kg felt hard on my back🤦🏻‍♀️. Compare that to now squatting with control, a heavier load, and no mirrors in sight 👍🏼. .
.
The best thing you can do for your own fitness journey is to ACCEPT that you will go through many phases. One of these phases will almost certainly be a step back, perhaps maybe a few steps back, but one that is necessary to experience in order to move ahead.

А сейчас, во время подготовки к лету, запросы в поисковой строке 'как быстро похудеть' вводятся чаще, чем 'как быстро выучить' 🤷.

#tbt to when I was unrecognizably lean😳 2 days out from #NPCNationals in Miami.
.
As competitors get ready for shows more and more I wanted to write about the days before the show.

Some coaches do peak week differently but I’ve always LOVED how @paulrevelia does it with his athletes.

For the most part life is normal. The workouts are meant to be like any other workout, just being a bit more careful not to overdo anything. Cardio tapers down all week, and come Wednesday you’re doing everything pretty light, to let your body recover.

A couple days out he just tells me to relax. Get in a bit of cardio, a little circuit workout, eat my food and check in frequently with how I look AND feel.

The key that I think a lot of people miss is that we don’t do anything super drastic. No huge cheat meals or endress cardio. No cutting water or sodium. No shots of alcohol and no diuretics.

Why? Because come peak week, the work is already done—or at least it should be. Nothing drastic is implemented because nothing drastic should happen. You should already be lean enough without any sort of “peak week magic”. The goal of peak week is to come out of the “depletion” mode of lower carbs and let the body recover (inflammation goes down) and let the muscles fill up, just in time for the show.

For me the relax & recover time is such a necessary blessing before a show. In Miami we walked leisurely around, sight seeing and settling into our Airbnb. I prepped food and put my feet up. Got the workouts in and really soaked in my surroundings. Found good coffee and enjoyed time with my *then* boyfriend.

If it’s your peak week: The hard work is done. Relax. Breathe. Eat and hydrate. Be present and remember why you started.
