    Post -Vegan Experiment
Well, I dabbled in the plant based whole food diet for the month of November. I can say that it didn't entirely suit me as my energy levels definitely went down. I have eaten red meat twice in December (since returning to my regular eating habits). The second time was at my staff Christmas party this weekend. I generally only eat red meat about twice a month. Often, it will be when I'm eating out in a restaurant. I tend to cook fish or vegetarian options at home.
I eat lots of whole foods all the time....fresh fruit and fresh vegetables feature highly in my shopping trolley!!
I encourage you all to experiment with new foods and vary your diet. Remember to steer clear of processed foods where possible and avoid microwaving your food! Most importantly, LISTEN TO YOUR BODY and eat what seems to agree with you!

Gratitude Increases Joy and Builds Sustained Happiness⠀

According to the Harris Poll Happiness Index, only 1 in 3 Americans reports being "very happy." More than half say they're frustrated at or by work. Other research suggests nearly 1 in 4 experiences no life enjoyment at all.⠀

The good news is, small changes in perspective and/or behavior can add up, and practicing gratitude may be at the top of the list of strategies known to boost feelings of joy, ultimately leading to sustained, long-term happiness and life satisfaction. Gratitude is also neutrally linked with generosity, and as you'd suspect, generosity has been shown to augment happiness as well.⠀

If you're among those who could use a happiness boost, consider cultivating an attitude of gratitude — every day. A simple and proven way of doing this is to keep a gratitude journal, in which you document the things you're grateful for.⠀

In one study, participants who kept a gratitude diary and reflected on what they were grateful for just four times a week for three weeks improved their depression, stress and happiness scores. A few tips to consider as you journal:⠀

Focus on the benevolence of other people. Doing so will increase your sense of being supported by life and decrease unnecessary anxiety⠀
Focus on what you have received rather than what's been withheld⠀
Avoid comparing yourself to people you perceive to have more advantages. Doing so will only erode your sense of security⠀

    Green Tea⠀
Green tea is widely reported as one of the best beverages for cancer prevention, but did you know that green tea has also been found to improve artery function, thus reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease?⠀

Our blood vessels are lined with the endothelium – a thin, protective lining of cells. The endothelial cells produce a gas called nitric oxide which helps our blood flow smoothly. These precious cells only live for about 30 years. As these cells die and are replaced, people in their 40s and 50s often experience a decline in endothelial function. This decline in endothelial function is associated with an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer, and more.⠀

However, a decline in endothelial function is not inevitable. A study published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology found that Chinese adults were less susceptible than white Australians to endothelial dysfunction and, in fact, the older Chinese studied had the arterial function of Australians in their 20s!⠀

What was their secret? Researchers believe it was participants’ traditional Chinese diet, including green tea – rich in flavonoids.⠀

In another study, adding milk – whether cow’s milk or soy milk — was found to dramatically reduce the bioavailability of the antioxidants in tea.⠀

Adding lemon, however, was found to increase levels of antioxidants. These antioxidants help prevent the damaging effects of oxidation on cells throughout the body.⠀
