Finally finished up this #familycrest commission! This was a blast to work on, and I’m excited to ship it off to its home this week. I used a 0.5 micron pen for the black lines, and otherwise used my #Mungyowatercolor set for the colour. It’s amazing how much history and heritage can be in a name!

~July 17th is the Celtic Feast of Tailtiu~⁣
⁣
Though relatively little is remembered about this goddess, she is the original honoree of various games and tournaments held on or around Lughnasadh (also known as Lammas).

    ☬ Alquimia

If you could only keep one midfielder at the club who would it be out of Olivier Ntcham, Callum McGregor, Scott Brown, Tom Rogic and Ryan Christie?

    Revolt in Britain part 1.

In 43 AD the Romans invaded Britain. Only one generation later, in 60 AD, the most ferocious revolt the island would ever see erupted. The revolt was lead by Boudicca, widow of king Prasutagus of the Iceni tribe. The queen managed to mobilize a great number of people and sacked Colchester, St. Albans and London.

At the time the revolt began the governor of the province, Gaius Suetonius Paulines, was on campaign in Northern Wales and when he heard of the news he forced marched his troops to meet Boudicca in battle and crush her and her army.

Paulinus had two legions under his command, Legio XIV and parts of Legio XX with auxiliary support units. Combined his force counted about 10.000 soldiers. We do not know the exact number of Boudicca’s army but it is sure that the Romans were outnumbered, one Roman source speaks of 100.000 men, but this is probably exaggerated.

In our next part we will examine the battle and one of the most controversial women in history: Queen Boudicca.

Work in progress. Last week I made a start on Elliot’s sleeve. I started on the shoulder with a Nordic mask, did a days work on the chest incorporating an existing Valknut tattoo, and then went down the arm from there. Although the patterns within this piece and undoubtedly Mammen inspired, the main body of the design is probably mostly related to the knotwork found in the Isle of Man from the early Viking age (like the #dragoncross1 ). This work is harder to classify as such as the dates they where created are sometimes unclear. Unlike the defined Scandinavian styles of the time, these works had local Celtic knotwork influence, so they became something else. Maybe a bit like me with my Celtic Welsh roots..
Elliot gave me a rough idea of what he wanted in his tattoo and have me free reign on the rest. The inside of the arm away from the mask and wrist reaching beard will be more freeform consisting of smaller characters performing their epic deeds along with many mythical creatures and beasts.
It was a pleasure to carve this on you Elliot, looking forward to seeing you again soon! :) #hibernonorse #norse #norsetattoo #nordic #nordictattoo #celtic #celtictattoo #knotwork #knotworktattoo #dotwork #dotworktattoo #blackwork #blackworktattoo #sacredknottattoo

Treasure nest 🖤 Amber collected over the years, one of my favorite tablet woven bands I’ve made, swirly gifts from years ago, a shawl from a beloved far away place, a vessel from my grandfather... everything full of memories and life, always.

🍃This is a recent photo of my OLD herbal apothecary/ altar setup. I recently got a new shelf, double the size of this one. It was a gift from my mother💕 & i’m still working on putting it all together. I can’t wait to show you all when it’s done!🍃

Last autumn, a terrible storm swept through the valley and blew down a great many of the old trees. One lost tree was the home of this little spirit.
Things are not over for this spirit, or this tree. There is more to come for them both, as the stump hosts fungi and insects, and dares out some new branches and leaves. Animals will live in the fallen trunk, and new forest life will grow from the eventual decay.
Much like the tree’s lingering stump, the spirit mostly sleeps, tucked away in itself, awaiting its next stage. It will have a new role, soon, when the world around it recovers and adapts. We come by every day to check on it, and each day it grows stronger - we have taken to offering it some food, which it eats with a growing enthusiasm. Change is finally afoot!
