    #DearDiary,
Last night, Todd and I went to dinner at Cafe Cluny.
It was my suggestion since I’d been out of town on a job over the weekend, and it felt like we hadn’t been out for a “date night” in quite awhile. Although 2019 has been busy in the work department, we’ve also been eating in more than usual since 2018 was less lucrative than we would have liked.
I know Todd has had cabin fever since being on medical leave all this time; and I know he’s grown weary of making meatloaf and roasting chickens, even though he’s magnificent at both. It was way cute how he researched matinees of “Greta” for my first proper guilt-free day off in some time. It was even cuter since he remembered a film I wanted to see. Todd usually only remembers movies he wants to see.
I chose Cafe Cluny with the hope of setting the scene for the romance that has somehow been forgotten in our life as an old gay married couple with old gay married problems like cancer surviving and asthmatic cats and uppity neighbors combining apartments.
Everything about the meal, from the view out the window and the sun going down to the Sleepy Hollow cocktails and tuna burgers with wasabi aioli, fell somewhere on the high romantic cuteness scale between Diane Keaton in “Something’s Gotta Give” and Meg Ryan In “You’ve Got Mail.” I mean this in the best of ways.
It was all laughter and sweetness until Todd decided to revisit the construction below our apartment while we were deciding on dessert, even though he had nothing new to add to the sore subject. The banana pudding was no longer irresistible.
When we got back home, we went into our regular roles of Todd sweeping and pointing out new sources of dust pollution, and me composing and proof reading concerned yet firm emails to our building’s management and to our co-op board.
