“The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt.” ~ Sylvia Plath
.
I used to say to myself and others that I’m not creative. For years, I believed this story. Shortly after my babies were born, I would put myself in situations where I was forced to be creative until I fit some crazy definition of what I thought it meant to be creative.
.
Thankfully, I’m no longer holding onto that story. One of my favorite ways to be creative is through movement specifically, yoga.
.
Swipe over to see part of my creative flow.
.
What’s your favorite way to express your creative side?
.
P.s. I believe everyone is capable of creativity. 😉

Why are breathing practices (pranayama) so important in Yoga?
Pranayama is a Sanskrit word which is composed of words prana (life force) and ayama (restrain or control prana). Through these breathing practices, a Yogi intentionally changes and alters the flow of the breath in order to produce a specific result for example more balance in the mind.

This is one of the fundamental aspects of a yoga practice as yoga is to yolk the mind, body & breath. Learning pranayama allows for a yogi to be able to more efficiently control the flow of prana in the body. Each breath we take says either yes or no to life, in each breath we have the capacity to choose to consciously breathe, through this process it is possible to have control over the state of mind, and health.

In our daily life we often do not take the time to sit and BREATHE, to just simply focus on the gift of the breath.

Energy of the Day: “Forest ~ Breath” 🌲
🌲🏞️🌳🏕️🌲🌝🌲🏕️🌳🏞️🌲
🌲
In Honor of: “International Day of Forests” aka “World Forestry Day”
🌲
From the Deck: “Earth Magic Oracle Card”
🌲
As we make our way across the meadow to the thicker parts of the forest, there is a subtle shift in the sensations in the body, one that might initially be barely perceptible but soon becomes undeniable. It’s nearly impossible not to take deeper breaths. The richness of the forest’s oxygen, given freely and generously from the trees (the Standing Ones) to us, is a natural exchange for the carbon dioxide we release every time we exhale. Further, the animals of the forest participate in this exchange as well in what is one of the most miraculous and remarkable collaborations between plants and animals that serve to help each other live and thrive.
🌲
The ratio of this oxygen to carbon dioxide exchange has been in balance for millennia but has been changing quite dramatically in the last several years as carbon dioxide levels have been rising. Yet there are many parts of the world where we can still enjoy the refreshing and revitalizing effects of an afternoon enjoying the sights, sounds, and smells of a walk in the forest.
🌲
Through prayer and action, we can express our gratitude to these tree beings for the many gifts they provide, not the least of which is contributing to the very air we breathe. Things are different after a walk in the forest.
🌲
Your breathing is too shallow. Although it may feel natural, it is an unhealthy habit that causes this shortness of breath. When you subconsciously shorten your breath, no matter if this is habitual or triggered by some event or circumstance, it activates certain physiological signals that prepare your system for “fight or flight.” Another conditioned response to perceived danger is to hold your breath. This is your survival response, although it does not serve you to do so.
🌲
So… breathe! Inhale deeply, regardless of your concerns, worries, or problems; then let it go. Next, allow yourself to breathe a little deeper and slower, do this a few times. Remember that every breath (Continued in comments...👇👇👇)

Inversions and the endocrine system, an interesting connection between what we do with our bodies and how it affects the systems within our bodies. With the change of gravity, inversions cause blood from lower extremities to drain towards the heart - stimulating a healthier exchange of nutrients and a flushing of waste from the endocrine glands. This may promote endocrine function and hormone secretion as well as hormone circulation in the body. Inversions can be done at any level of practice - you can work on the ones that require strength and balance or give the body a rest with a restorative pose like legs up the wall. Whatever the pose, feel how getting the feet over the head hits the reset button. Come flow through tonight to @shivashantiyogaschool for a “Hips and Head” flow with Jenn. Opening both lower upper chakras. See you tonight at 6:30!

    Happy International Day of Forests!
🌳🌴🌲🌳🌴🌲🌳🌴🌲🌳🌴
Since we plant trees every day, today we shall not plant, but rather admire and appreciate them, water them, feed them and hug them!
🌳🌴🌲🌳🌴🌲🌳🌴🌲🌳🌴🌲
They are our lungs, providing us with the very air we BREATHE! It’s completely crazy that the human race is cutting or burning them down at an alarming rate…
To balance the madness, we could plant a tree each and turn our urban environments into vertical forests!
If you can’t plant a tree yourself, don’t worry, we can do it for you! We accept donations and contributions for our Reforestation project, you can adopt your own tree!
Send us a dm or click the link in our bio

Equal day and equal night. Equal light and equal dark. Equal sun and equal moon. Happy Spring Equinox! Happy Super (the final of 2019!) and Full Moon in Libra! As I’ve been reading all of the lovely things my favorite astrologers have to say, this day is one of much change and transformation. Of a give, and a take. Something has to die for something new to be born. Something has to be let go of to create the space for something new. Today is that day to find that balance. To find that birth. Renewal. Look outside and see the greens poking through the soil. The chorus of birds making their ways back out in droves. Im an Aries, and as Aries season begins today, I feel mega charged to be reborn. I’ll be making some really special Full Moon candles this evening, right under the light. I look forward to helping you welcome all the goodness your life has to offer for love, abundance, and healing. xx💕

For breath is life, and if you breathe well you will live long on earth. ~Sanskrit Proverb

That's what we do in our Yoga practice - whether you take a gentle approach, a physically demanding class, or something in between - we breathe! Consciously and fully... and with our bodies, with movement - so there is always connection between the two.
Book your class tonight, and breathe better tomorrow, at Mint! Oh, and if you're coming to the 9 AM alignMINT class tomorrow, allow yourself some breathing room as Ft Thomas Schools have a late start tomorrow (which will mean a bit more traffic for that class!)

So I honestly had no words to express myself until today. .
I recently went to a workshop where we worked with the breath to release trauma. It was the most intense transformational thing I have ever experienced in my entire life. We take our breath for granted, we don’t really think to much about it. It’s there, naturally we breath. It’s just a normal everyday thing. I promise you our breath is the most powerful thing about us, using breath we can explore buried parts of ourselves, heal ourselves fully. Our breath is the life force energy itself it connects us to all that is, the universe, god, love whatever you want to call it. Our breath is the bridge between it all. We are sacred beings. .
.
My experience brought out so much pain, hurt, fear, past negative experiences that I had created attachment to. In the moment of it all. I surrendered. I understood, and I let love into my heart. Real, pure, unconditional love.
.
I’m so grateful to have had this experience and I feel even more grateful that I get to share it with people. 💚

Gradually realizing that I was actually for real breathing and that life is in me. Feeling your breath with presence is a holy or whole 😆 pronounced holy experience. Looking forward to a beautiful class @stephysobyyoga Inspire Yoga today to experience this inwardness while connecting in community. 🦋#kidsyoga #mindfulchildren #aerialyoga #breath #breathislife #bodytemple #love

    ::I N V A S I O N::
It was an invasion of virus & bacteria. I can feel them dying in me - I call them Invaders. Looking for a healthy biome, they took over. I was invaded.
.
.
I often talk in prenatal yoga about how in labor, the body takes over for childbirth. We build the bridge between breath, body, & mind in each class.
.
.
I experienced the other side of the equation when my body was invaded & attacked. My body took over, desperate at times. Borderline sepsis as my body sent everything out at once to fight. My heart strained to keep up. .
.
I realized how much I depend on breath to maintain my steadiness & mental health. Without it, there was panic. Thank god a nurse gave me a low dose of Xanax. Thank god she held my hand when I needed it. Thank god I had access to a team of doctors & nurses & technicians to help me through each treatment & diagnosis. Thank god I could listen over & over again to the song “Breathe” by Jiwanapal Kaur that first day & then go to fitful sleep each night listening to @maxrichtermusic Sleep album. Thank god for every bag of antibiotics, potassium, fluids, & who knows what else that was inserted in my arms & injected into my belly. Thank god for the radiation I inhaled & that was injected into my body to check the health of my heart & lungs. This is how I began to fight back & reclaim the territory of my body. .
.
There is a specific taste & smell to pneumonia dying in my lungs. A range of coughs as my body tries to expel their dead bacterial bodies - at least that’s what I imagine. I am resting now w/the tiniest increments of feeling better each day. .

🌬Our breath is such an easy thing to take for granted since it happens automatically on a subconscious level. We don’t have to remind ourselves to breathe, we just do. But did you know that the amount of breaths you take can actually determine how long you will live?
In yoga, it is said that our span of life is determined by the number of breaths, not by the number of years. The quality of our breath determines the quality of our health which in turn changes the quality of our lives. So the slower you breathe, the better it is.
Now of course we can’t always control outside forces that happen in our lives, but focusing on the breath and becoming conscious of the action of breathing in and out clears our minds and our energy, helping us reconnect to ourselves.
Our breath is the gateway to our subconscious mind and connects us to our bodies and our thoughts.
When we own our breath, our minds becomes still, and we can keep the peace within us, instead of giving it away.
