Side planks are one of many poses that I don’t often teach or practice. With messed up shoulders and ankles, I tend to baby myself in my personal practice and I don’t like to teach a pose that I don’t do. Keeping in mind that most classes are filled with all levels of yogis, I tend to offer (and practice) a knee or forearm down depending on how I feel. On this particular day, I was feeling a bit confident, apparently. Maybe we can play around with some variations this week:
Thursday: 615pm Flow @crunchhoboken
Saturday: 12pm Flow @sattvayogajc & 4pm Yin @urbansoulshoboken

RepostBy @kapokroots: "The Heart Chakra 💚also known as the Anahata Chakra is located in the space around the heart center and is associated with the respiratory, cardio vascular and immune systems. Keeping your Heart Chakra balanced and unblocked will help to keep energy flowing through these vital organs. A physical practice that focuses on the Heart Chakra can assist in keeping it balanced. When you feel sad, jealous, angry, or withdrawn, balanced movement can help to reconnect your body, mind and spirit. Because the Heart Chakra is located in the chest cavity, balanced movement mostly involves heart openers, breathing techniques and meditation. Here is a more detailed list of physical practices to help balance your energies:

ૐYoga: Practicing balanced, heart-opening yoga poses such as Upward-Facing Dog (Urdhva Mukha Svanasana), Camel Pose (Ustrasana) and Standing Mountain Pose (Tadasana) help to move prana through the Heart Chakra. These poses all help to strengthen the spine, stretch the lungs and chest, and soften the heart space while opening the Heart Chakra. 💚Pilates:🧿Acupuncture: This method of treatment is based on unblocking and influencing the body by pricking the skin or tissue with needles to alleviate pain and to treat various physical, mental and emotional conditions. 🌬Pranayama: This method is all about the breath and as air is the element associate with the Heart Chakra, practicing breathing techniques helps to soften the heart space, relax the body and decrease anxiety. Using a three-part breath guides more oxygen into the body. Practicing Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing) helps to focus the mind and relax the body. .

Little message for ya loves 💕
I’ve come to realise that when I expect bad things to happen, that’s where my attention goes- and that is what I not only notice, but attract.
Bad things do happen- to everyone- and it’s not your fault.
But good things- beautiful, miraculous things- happen too.
•
•
•
I’ve found it hard to expect good in life because a lot of hard, painful things have happened in the last 10 years. But I realise that I have the power to escape the negative mindset of expecting one king punch after the other.❤️ and that- cliché warning- my past does not define my present or future. (I feel like I may as well have written “Live, Laugh, Love but what the fuck😂) •
•
•
I’m sick of bracing myself for impact.
I want to spend my life in anticipation of the good, and appreciating the blessings of the present as well✨
To live in freedom, not dread. •
•
•
I mean, what is there to lose? •
•

•
Quote is from @deliberatemillionaire and it just jumped out at me straight away. Thank you!!! 🙏🏼☺️

Your heart chakra is the connection point where the female and male energy meet.
Where shiva and Shakti blend together into one cosmic dance.
Where polarities come together.
The equal and opposite must simultaneously be true 🙏🏽 .

In Vorarlberg, Austria this summer
July 23rd - 28th we will take this cosmic dance one step further and move into the Love, Compassion, Balance and Union that it represents and where a deep
meditation practice can take place 🧘🏽‍♀️ .
.

Giving thanks to beautiful @zenarmstrong for capturing “Shivas Dance of Love” from the Five Element Form 📸🙏🏽 and thank you @thesanctuarythailand 💜

My sister is painting colibris at the moment, since she was touched by the fact that even though colibris clap their wings incredibly fast, there still is a pause moment between the beats, a stillness hanging in the air.
It makes me think of the breath and the complete silence -a non-doing- that we touch at the end of each exhale....a moment of infinity, always present. To become conscious of that....

How to fall out of inversions? 🤸🏻‍♀️
.
Last weekend, I had a student ask if I had any tips for her to get over the fear of practicing inversions without using a wall. She has been using a wall for a while and isn’t progressing.
.
My #1 tip is to learn how to fall out of an inversion. Once we learn how to fall, we no longer fear it.
.
There are a couple of ways to fall out of an inversion: 1-fall into a wheel pose or 2-fall to the side similar to a cartwheel.
.
I don’t recommend falling into a wheel unless you are comfortable in your wheel, you have a flexible back, and you are warmed up.
.
I recommend falling to the side. The video on the 2nd slide shows how to fall to the side. Always land on your feet and not your knees.
.
Once you get comfortable falling, I next recommend practicing without the wall. You’ll learn how to make micro-adjustments for better balance and body awareness.
.
Comment below your tips for getting over the fear of falling.

As a pilates and yoga instructor, I teach breath work. Primarily the connection between breath and movement, mind and body.
🔅
Do you know that unless we practice breathe work, we mostly shallow breathe?
🔅
That means these effects are happening in our body daily:
•Low energy •rapid heart beats
•more stress
•anxiety
•loss of memory 🔅
In The ML Method training we recommend 15 min. a day of intentional breathing. Can be broken up into segments in your day.
4 o’clock slump?
Breathing is a practice 👊

Here are the benefits of a breathing practice:
1️⃣ lower blood pressure
2️⃣ increase your energy
3️⃣ stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system =gut health
4️⃣ promotes mindfulness
5️⃣ reduces heart rate

Breathe deeply ladies, your body and mind will thank you 😊

    Understanding Nasal Breathing
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Nasal breathing is a basic and critical function that we rarely think🤔 much about, and most would be quite surprised to learn how important and influential it is in our growth and development for a healthy productive life. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Fundamentally speaking, nasal breathing 🤐provides us with a sense of smell, enhances oxygen absorption by our lungs (via nitric oxide production from our sinuses). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It warms and humidifies the air we breathe before it reaches the lower airway, and helps filter impurities from the air. However, it is also responsible for proper craniofacial development, tempers-mandibular joint function, head posture and more. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When nasal breathing does not occur for any reason, the body is forced into a series of compromises that prioritize getting oxygen into our blood at the expense of the functions provided by nasal breathing.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Because oxygen is required for survival, we are forced to live with a host of acquired health issues as a “consequence of chronic or intermittent mouth breathing.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
One such consequences, known as sleep 🛏 disordered breathing (SDB), is becoming pandemic in children👶, and directly affects their growth, development, intellect, academic performance🏋️‍♀️, behavior, and much more.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Close your mouth🤐 and breath through your nose👃

These three things even though they may seem extremely simple have completely changed my life! A few weeks ago I realized I have been stuck in a rut for months and I didn’t know how to get out of it. I know that sounds crazy because I’ve been on a spiritual path for many years now, but whenever I feel stuck I tend to panic and act like I don’t know what to do. Has that ever happened to you? So I listened to my intuition and just went back to the basics breathe, pray, and meditate. I feel like a completely different person when I do these every day! I’m much more positive, I’m happier, my body feels lighter and I’m easier to be around. 😋 My day just flows so easily and effortlessly just by doing these three simple things. And the best part is all you need is less than 10 minutes a day to do these three things! Easy right?! 😎 What would you say are your top three things to do every day to feel more positive and aligned? LMK down below 😘 •

The Nitrogen Advantage of Nasal Breathing

First rule of Breath Control, the nose is for breathing and the mouth is for eating.
Blood is oxygenated 10-15% more when breathing through the nose. When breathing through the nose Nitrogen Oxide(NO) flows with the inhaled air into the lungs, here it makes the blood vessels in the aveoli expand. This allows a greater volume of blood to pass through so that more oxygen is received throughout the cells in body.
NO is also the active ingredient in nitroglycerin which is used as a heart medicine. It causes the blood vessels of the heart to relax and expand. Blood flow is increased and blood pressure is lowered.

NO also has a strong antibacterial effect. It can kill both bacteria and viruses.

NO is not limited to improving oxygenation of the blood, it also spares the immune system of excess work and strengthens it.

Breathing lightly through your nose deeply into your diaphragm increases your Nitric Oxide production and is a critical advantage in your overall health because it allows oxygen, blood, and nutrients to reach every part of your body effectively and efficiently.

Utilizing Breath Control techniques to harness the advantages of this simple yet highly sophisticated gas provide major benefits for athletic or business performance or day-to-day overall physical and mental health.

    Is this thing even on??
.

STOP commenting, marketing, inferring or even asking about our 'bounce back' post partum.
.

It s bullshit. Boucing back dosent even make sense. It's damaging, it's unrealistic, it's unfair, it s toxic and frankly it's just exhausting and insulting to a woman who has just grown, birthed and is now providing for and caring for the survival of a small human. .

We will not, and physically cannot "bounce back." We were and we are always bouncing forward....or maybe it s a slow walk, a jog, a run, crawling.....whatever IT is, it is oue REALITY to own, not anyone else s. .

We are forever changed, changing and moving ahead in our own way and in our own damn time. .

Having a focused mind is a gateway,
it takes practice and discipline
But when there
How gently do I actually move from one focus to the other ?
And do I adore it just the way it is ..
purely giving it my ALL ?
I choose to do.

Until I can let go
Let go of the object or the person
and gently drip into wonder
As the drop becomes the ocean
I ask myself
Where does anything come from ?
Where do I come from ?
Where am I ? .
.

Thank you so much beautiful @zenarmstrong for capturing this during class 📸🙏🏽💕

    Why is inner work important?

By deeply getting to know ourselves through practices like meditation, breathwork, yoga, etc., we uncover and integrate our sh*t. As a result, we become lighter and are able to respond versus react. We feel more free.

This work makes it less likely for us to be triggered. When we let everything continue to accumulate within, this causes us to react. Have you ever snapped on someone unexpectedly and it felt like it wasn’t you? I have. This is what happens when we don’t process our sh*t.

To become the best version of ourselves, we need to do this work. This work allows us to stay healthy - mentally, physically, and spiritually.

By processing and integrating what we’re experiencing through life, we become and remain healthy. We can become conscious, loving and happy. Isn’t that something that you want?

Remember - the Asana is not more important than you !
YOU are more important than the Asana!
The asana should be designed to suit you. 🙏🏽 .

Yoga is much much more than just practicing the poses until they become mediation.
Remember that Asana is just one of the 8 limbs and we want to be balanced,
we want to unite all of them into our practice and daily life 🙏🏽✨ .
.

If you are curious please come and join us
In Berlin for the “Introduction to Anahata Yoga “ June 26th
There are still some spots left 😌💚💫 .

“ I breathe in the soft, saturated exhalations of cedar trees and salmonberry bushes, fireweed and wood fern, marsh hawks and meadow voles, marten and harbor seal and blacktail deer. I breathe in the same particles of air that made songs in the throats of hermit thrushes and gave voices to humpback whales, the same particles of air that lifted the wings of bald eagles and buzzed in the flight of hummingbirds, the same particles of air that rushed over the sea in storms, whirled in high mountain snows, whistled across the poles, and whispered through lush equatorial gardens…air that has passed continually through life on earth. I breathe it in, pass it on, share it in equal measure with billions of other living things, endlessly, infinitely.”

Welcome to Day 1 of #ChillWithTheYogis.
It's Anulom Vilom Pranayama that iam practicing. Anulom Vilom Pranayama (Nadi Shodhana) or alternate nostril breathing is one if the effective breathing technique since long to neutralise the breaths and is also one of the type of Pranayama. In short to increase the prana (vital life force) and keep the body mind healthy ,stress free, boosts immunity, balances harmones as we face a lot of harmonal imbalances, it is crucial that we practice it. Close your right nostril gently with thumb and inhale from left nostril, gently close the left nostril with ring and little finger open the right nostril and exhale . Now inhale from right and exhale from left, this complete one cycle. The index and middle finger be bent and let it touch the palms. The spine b straight
One can practice it fr 5-10 minutes. Intially do it for 2-3 mn
I am ain't an expert in here to talk at length on this, but all I can say is it bring in a lot of changes by practicing pranayama 🙏 Trust me once you start working on it ,the positivity is felt. Imagine life without BREATH. Pranayama works wonders on Nervous System .That's another topic which shall take it sometime soon.
As the heat is just soaring practice any kind of pranayama, keeps self internally cool.Have coconut water it is really helpful - for the skin and hair and is a good hydrator , there is again my fav kokum (Garcinia indica) squash that acts as the best coolant. Drinking loads of water, wearing cotton clothes, applying VCO ,begin your day with a glass of lime water first. It truly flushes out toxins and gives one a clear skin.

Here is a breathing process that will drain anything in your life that you do not want. "We use the breath work to hault a negative situation by removing the power behind it " John Kreiter. I present the possibility that we may drain anything trying to take away our rights from us. Practice this breath work for at least 10 minutes daily in a quiet space and any other time you feel your emotions getting out of control and watch amazing things happen. If you would like more information on how to do this process please check out a book called #themagnumopus by #johnkreiter #breathislife #prochoice #awomansrighttochoose #aclu #humanrights also practiced this breath work anytime you need to calm down, to relax, to get centered and in your power. Anger has its place and once it has passed Calm has power.. pick your battles carefully and save your energy for the voting polls. #goddessbless

And then, from all those feelings, we grow.

And then, from all those feelings, we grow.

👁 Every moment is an opportunity to see what lies before us with fresh eyes, to find a way to be grateful for what we see, and to unconditionally choose to be happy.
*
Today I choose to be grateful for clean water, safety, a warm bed, people who care for me, plenty of food to eat, health care, and other infinite blessings that often can be easy to overlook.
*
Taking time to slow down to be grateful for Infinite Love and all the blessings of life, is something that yoga has helped me with over the past decade, tremendously.
*
In the practice of yoga, one begins by turning inward to the breath to be present with what is/ourself/the moment and to set an intention.
*
For me, this helps me tune in to the love, the light, and the blessings which surround me, and consciously create what I’m wanting in life.
*
Intentionally staying connected to breath and the present moment as I move, not just in yoga, but about my day, is EVERYTHING.
*
Sometimes it’s difficult to control our thoughts, but we can control the speed and depth of our breath.
*
Slow it down and deepen it, and you will, in turn, slow down your mind and deepen your present moment awareness.
*
Forever grateful for this practice, for this breath, and everyone in my life who I continue to learn, share and grow with.
*
#Namaste
