The Crown Chakra, also known as the Sahasrara Chakra, resides at the crown of the head and includes the neck, the head, the eyes, and the brain. Its colors are white and lavendar and its elements are considered to be all of the elements along with our connection to the Universe and the Divine. Keeping your Crown Chakra balanced and unblocked will help to keep energy flowing through these vital organs. A physical practice that focuses on the Crown Chakra can assist in keeping it balanced. When you feel afraid, mentally overwhelmed, and disconnected, balanced movement can help to reconnect your body, mind and spirit. Because the Crown Chakra is located at the top of the head, balanced movement mostly involves Crown Chakra openers, breathing techniques and meditation to help keep the Sahasrara Chakra balanced. Here is a more detailed list of physical practices to help balance your energies:

Yoga: Practicing balanced, Crown-opening yoga poses such as Bound Lotus pose (Bakkha Padmasana), Fish pose (Matsyasana), and Corpse pose (Savasana) which is believed to be the most important yoga pose as it is practiced in every yoga class. Chanting Ah-OM also helps to move prana through the Crown Chakra.

Pilates: This method focuses on balance and stability. Pilates will not only help you to connect with your Crown Chakra, but strengthen your core muscles. This method is highly recommended for strength conditioning.

Meditation: meditating on the Crown Chakra helps to balance this Chakra. Sitting with the shoulders back and spine straight, while focusing on the Crown Chakra, and breathing deeply.

Sound Therapy: this healing modality assists with clearing the energetic space all around us in order to build a stronger connection with the Universe and the Divine.

Do you experience fear? Anxiety? Trapped in the cage of your mind?

Me too.

Thankfully we have a powerful Ally.. Breath.

There are many methods, the ones below work for me, give them a try, might just blow your mind!

Pranayama (ancient yogic breathing practice). Every morning I do a simple 2-3 rounds of ‘Kapalabhati’ followed by 5-10 minutes of ‘Anuloma Viloma’. This will first oxygenate your body and then create a nice flow of steady deep breathing to balance your energy and get your day started right. (simple tutorials online)

4-7-8 Method: This calm slow technique activates the parasympathetic nervous system, perfect for when your just a bit too ramped up and need a Chill! Close your eyes, inhaling through your nose for a count of 4, holding for a count of 6 and exhaling for a count of 8. Repeat!

When I’m stressed or my mind is wired, Wim Hof is my go to! Its the most powerful breathing method I have discovered, try 3 rounds of this annihilates the monkey mind! Be sure to tread lightly in the beginning and make sure you are NOT Standing up (made that mistake before, ouch) - simple tutorials by @iceman_hof on youtube

All exercise is good for breathing but the best practices are ones where your breathing is synced to your movement, Do 5-7 rounds of Sun Salutation (Yoga warmup) or try some basic Qigong for 5-10 minutes, the breathing squat is a simple technique, see my previous post, ‘Try Qigong or Tai Chi’ for more details.

More tips?
Nothing gets you breathing deeply like a cold shower, get that blood flowing!

Or.. If you want to try and Biohack yourself to better all-round breathing, try using the @relaxator I haven't tried it yet but according to @bengreenfieldfitness it's a pretty awesome breath training device.

This is my main reason for coming to Florida: accepting the Distinguished Registerd Respiratory Therapist Credentialing Success Award on behalf of my program! I’m the Clinical Coordinator(Director of a Clinical Education). This is our 2nd year in a row. Ain’t God good?! We work hard for every student! We invest in them. We encourage them. We CHALLENGE them to be the best. We model for them to always keep learning. Don’t doubt community colleges! I’ll put my students against anybody! When I’m doubting my impact, a past grad seems to show up in my email or in my office to tell me how I’ve helped them to succeed. They earned a college degree they can take anywhere. That piece of paper and the knowledge they’ve acquired changes the trajectory of their life. If that isn’t ministry I don’t know what is loves.
I’m pictured with the President of the CoARC Dr. Allen Gustin. He said he loved my ensemble too🤗🤗They accredit all college programs conferring degrees of Respiratory Therapy.

We have a tool available to us, available at any moment. A tool that is free, but powerful, and yet most, I mean most people do not know that this thing within them, this thing they do thousands of times a day, can be used to balance, nurture, heal our being in a multitude of ways. Your breath, or the way you are breathing reveals many things about your current state, such as whether you are stressed or even depressed, anxious or angry. By simply learning a few techniques and that your breath is more than a thing we unconsciously do all day that just happens to keep us alive, but also, is a feature of our design to inform us of our current emotional state and it has the ability to be altered to quickly change or adjust our current state. Wow! This is why I love working with and teaching breathing techniques....the breath is yours, it is free, it can be done anywhere! It can alter your mood, blood pressure, energy levels, overall health and the inner landscape of your body can be balanced and regulated with your breath...in fact the yogis believe learning to breathe in specific ways can and will absolutely lengthen your life. If you would like to explore how a few simple breathing techniques can greatly improve your life, message me here or email 2dreamis2be@comcast.net. I offer individual or group breathing health sessions....they are a fun, feel good way to begin a better relationship with yourself and your health. #breathingtechniques #breathingexercises #breathislife #breatheright #breathislife #pranayama #changeyourbreathchangeyourlife

📸: @snacksinthestacks 💗 This week’s schedule post comes a day early, because I feel inspired to tell you to do you. We’re all riddled with insecurities, told we need to look a certain way, to feel a certain way (or not feel) and are berated with ways to comply and be “normal”. Well, define normal. We’re all incredibly unique, and we deserve to feel good in every aspect of our lives. We deserve to feel good in our bodies, which is my main reasoning for becoming a yoga teacher. I’ve always had a bigger body, and I’ve always been instructed to cover it up. Ever since I was a little girl, I never understood why I, too, couldn’t wear a two-piece bathing suit. Now that I love my body and am deeply appreciative of what it does for me, you couldn’t tell me to cover up if you tried. There are plenty of women, even smaller than I, who feel insecure and the need to cover themselves up because of unrealistic and crude expectations of our society. I hope this inspires you to live your best life, two-pieces or not, and feel comfortable and whole while doing it. Then come treat your body right with me on your mat while you’re at it:
Sunday: 5pm Flow @crunchhoboken
Monday: 1245pm Flow @crunchhoboken & 8pm Restore @sattvayogajc
Thursday: 615pm Flow @crunchhoboken
Saturday: 12pm Flow @sattvayogajc & 4pm Yin @urbansoulshoboken

I’m thanking the shifts in the universe (2 eclipses, 5 retrogrades 🤪) and working with an incredible healer (@lucemiagroup !) for the grounding that has come into my life over the course of the last month. When things started spinning out of control and I was experiencing panic attacks multiple times a day, I didn’t think I had much left to offer to my students. How could I stand in the front of a room and direct others through motion and emotion when I couldn’t even handle myself? I was guided to spend the summer in joy, doing things to make me happy, to find true pleasure, and give the hard stuff a rest for a while. I’m happy to say I’ve been doing just that. Finding what makes me happy, those who make me happy and love and support me, and choosing myself over anything else has really created a shift in my life. I’m lucky to have built a work life that surrounds me with love and support. I am eternally grateful for all I have experienced and will experience, and what those things will help me to do in my work. If you’re having a hard time this summer, know you’re not alone, and know there are a lot of seemingly simple tools that you can use to come back to yourself. To your joy. Grounding is essential, bare feet in the grass or an Epsom salt bath does wonders. Spending a few minutes a day in meditation, or just turned off from electronics and doing something that would make the younger version of yourself happy, is incredibly soothing to your soul. From my open and thriving heart to yours, I send you peace and love, and the willingness to be open to both. 💓

After spending more time in town than usual this last few days I’ve remembered how much London as an environment gets to me, despite how much I love living here.

You don't just pick up a sooty face, you collect up all of the energies of the people you're bumping into & crossing paths with, all of the noise, the bright lights & the information. And I feeeeeel that.

A few years ago I got exhausted from carrying all of the stuff I was picking up. It’s enough to be holding onto our own stuff, never mind other people’s too—entanglement is hard! I used to unknowingly harden against it to try to stop myself from absorbing all of the hectic energy. That didn't turn out to be a good way to live. So once I realised what I was doing, I learnt how to be my soft human self without absorbing all of the hardness.

Simply put, our environment is fundamental to our health & happiness, especially if you're of an absorbent disposition & find earthly realms to be heavy. These are some of the things I do regularly (but should do more) to protect my energy: ⭒ Sage.
⭒ Wear tourmaline.
⭒Listen to calm music. We're formed of the things we let into our field (see my last post!). I try to fill mine with growth promoting things, & I never read the metro!
⭒ Move more slowly, not more quickly.
⭒ Breathe.
Our breath is a means of keeping energy moving through our bodies — as Oxford St. pushes it in, you can breathe it out. My breathing becomes shallow AF in town, especially on public transport; London’s mainline trains have the capacity to send me raging into my sympathetic nervous system—an effective way to switch back to rest and digest is with BREATH. Make your exhale longer than your inhale to create your own internal world of calm, even while London rages on externally. Your breathing also gives you something to focus on that you can control so you're not fixated on the things you can't, like the inefficient trains. For example...

Wishing you guys could feel the zen vibes 🧘🏽‍♀️ of this park while sipping on a ginger lemon CBD + tea from @drinksolti ⁣
⁣
My thoughts for today ~ Mental health is one of the most over-looked forms of self-care, especially in the black community. We continue to stigmatize the need for it and ignore the astounding statistics of suicide rates in our community.⁣
⁣
When will we wake up to the fact that without a functioning brain🧠, we are literally “the walking dead?” Did you know that if you were to simply do deep breathing for a few minutes daily, you would exercise and stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system to actually protect you in high-stress situations? Deep breathing prevents your stress response system from over reacting in the midst of a stressful-moment. That is how powerful you are! 🧚🏽‍♀️✨⁣
⁣
I urge you all to take the time out (speaking to myself here too) every day to breathe🌬, meditate🧘🏽‍♀️, journal📝, or some other form of mental health outward expression—so that you’re prepared for those tough situations in life💚✨.

Have you experienced this? The power of your breath?

In a yoga pose, in traffic, giving birth, supporting birth, sitting quietly with someone who needs you, worrying about something, giving a massage, soothing someone with a touch or a hug, thinking about something really big, calming your mind down, working through a panic attack, feeling your way through disappointment or heartbreak... ✨What’s your biggest memory of acknowledging the power of your breath?✨

We’re diving into the theme of ripeness, natural timing, and abundance in Amba Embodiment Circles this week. We are fed ideas that we need so much, yet the most abundant experiences I have ever had were accessed very simply, through the power of Nature inside of me and around me. Breath that feels so deeply nourishing and life-giving, with energy like a waterfall. What does abundance feel like, on a cellular level? ✨💧✨

Pilates is an incredible practice which teaches you to move your body in alignment allowing your musculoskeletal system to work with efficiency and ease. The principals learnt through Pilates transfer to other training and your bodies increased awareness allows you to get more out of these with less effort. .
Not only does Pilates do wonders for your body; keeping you youthful and full of vitality, it is so good for your mind - training the mind muscle with the mind body connection. .
Pilates strengthens the body with the muscles in a lengthened state which means you get stronger and simultaneously more Flexi 👌🏻
The breath is a key component of Pilates which means you leave feeling full of life, literally.
.
@erin_mareeee is teaching beginners Pilates at Bishopdale YMCA starting 30 July at 5.30 for those who want to have fun and feel flexible and fabulous. ✌️👋💋

    Stop. Drop and MOVE! ❤

PLAY. How do you play? When do you play? Who do you play with? 💜

Here is a challenge for YOU! Next time you are at the park with your kids or even just by yourself...that s right you don t need kids to play at the park.... instead of sitting on a bench looking down at your phone (common we are ALL guilty of it) try out something at the park! It can be going down the slide, monkey bars, climbing, anything at all, just got off the bench!!🤗 You can do it! 💙

Parks are made for adults too, and they are an amazing place to explore play, to get curious about the ways you can move, to test your balance, proproception, stability, mobility and to check in with yourself and probably your ego 😉 because you'd be surprised at how challenging parks can be for adults. 💛

So my loving and playful challenge to you, is to post a picture or video of yourself this summer playing at a park! Use the hashtag #adultplayparkchallenge2019 and let's see what we can come up with! 🧡

PS. No children were hurt in the playing on this video. He is newly turned 4 and is exploring and learning how to do monkey bars...we all have to start somewhere! Where will you start?😍

One of the #pranayamas breathing techniques which I practice every day.

This one I unfortunately can’t explain on Instagram. For these techniques I would need couple of more minutes and hours. You can learn it in the #artofliving #happinessprogram.

To get started with #pranayam check out my YouTube Channel.
Will also post soon a video where I teach the „Ujjayi“ breathing technique - an undercover technique (nobody will even know you’re doing it 😉) #3stagepranayama #ujjayi #breathislife #prana

    Happy Tuesday!!
Endurance comes through applying the appropriate amount of steadiness and strength over time. That may look like taking an extra breath or two before entering the next posture or task in life.
In this portion of the #Ashtanga #Intermediate practice tests willingness to slow down, to endure, to know that breath synchronized with movement will carry us through. Each chaturanga offers a pause.
It seems the only way to sustain life/our practice is through a calm and focused mind ready for anything!
As you go through your day may you relish an extra breath or two before your next to-do!
.
Postures:
Shalabhasana A & B
Locust Pose
Bhekasana
Frog Pose
Dhanurasana
Bow Pose
Parshva Dhanurasana
Side Bow
.
Stay tuned later as I announce the winners of #elfeatheryoga5k 🙌🎉 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

‘Ef, I can’t sleep. Do you have any suggestion what to do?’ was the message I got from a friend of mine (@stefani_rum, got her permission to mention her here).
.
‘Breath’ was my answer
.
.
Breathing is managed in the conscious and unconscious. We often let it happen naturally.
.
.
This week in 4 posts, I would like to share the breathing techniques that I use regularly in different situations (More details will be explained in my blog, link in bio), namely:
🔹Breathing to sleep deeper & better.
🔹Breathing for managing anxiety and anger
🔹Breathing for becoming a good partner in communication
🔹Breathing for managing stress
.
.
Let’s start with breathing for sleeping.
When I slept somewhere not on my own bed, I couldn’t sleep because of excitements; the bed was not so comfortable; nosiness outside the room; etc... I sometimes can’t sleep on my own bed if I have so many ideas or plannings in my head.
.
.
I learned this technique when I did ‘Yoga Nidra’ for the first time. .
💦 Drink enough lukewarm water or tea (not too much and no cold water).
.
📱 Lay on your bed comfortably (it’s also resting time for your smartphone).
.
👀 Close your eyes and breath normally & conscious.
.
🔸Breath slowly & repeat this a few times: inhale & relaxation into the body, exhale & stress leaving the body.
.
🔸Continue breathing while feeling the area of your body (right fingers, wrist, arm, hips, feet & other right parts of the body then continue the same for the left part).
.
🔁When you finish, breath further and now focus solely on your breathing.
.
🔙Breath slowly & deeply.
Every time you breathe, you start to countdown your breath as this “inhale 30, exhale 30, inhale 29, exhale 29, inhale 28…..in a slow pace.
.
.
Remember the intro of this post?
She texted me the next day to thank me.
This technic helps me & her. I hope it helps you too.
.
.
Let me know if it also works for you. I’d love to hear it. .
.
See you soon for the next tips of breathing technique?
