    Dinner from last night. This year I became so out of touch with my body. Whilst my ED didn’t return it it’s full blown form, I definitely had moments of relapse and I’ve felt the mindset creeping in. This year was ridden with uncertainty, things that I couldn’t control and yet felt like I should be able to. I thought at least if I controlled what I put into my body then it would be fine, right? But I lost control more and more. I’m honestly shocked as to how I didn’t get severely ill knowing the state of my immune system. I gravitated between eating too much and too little. I’d compare myself to others (something which I know is stupid but I think I had just lost a lot of trust in myself). My skin broke out like crazy (which is a big thing for me because I’ve always had clear skin) and I was in a constant state of anxiety. I completely lost the relationship that I had built with my body to the point now where I now don’t know what it wants anymore. That’s scary and something I need to rediscover, but I know it will be a slow process.  This year I had horrible insomnia- something I hadn’t experienced since my mid-teen years. I know now that it resulted from this uncertainty. I was torturing myself over things that couldn’t be corrected via my actions because they relied on the feelings of another. Whereas before yes my life was stressful, but I just went with my gut and did what I could knowing the rest was not in my hands. This year I thought I had to be everything for everyone. To live up to an ideal of perfection. I tried to be so many different things for different people that I lost myself. But that doesn’t mean I can’t rebuild. Once you’ve come out of difficult times before, every time you rise again it becomes easier. I know what works for me- reminding myself to do the best I can in the present moment, to not put things off that could be done today, taking each day at a time, sleep and just a regular schedule in general. I’m also going to work on mindfulness, yoga and meditation. Being patient with myself and working towards my goals is key and my way of self love. I am aware I sound like some crazy self-help guru but these are my genuine thoughts.

Exercise Highlight:
“Bird Dog”

The bird dog exercise is a great beginner/intermediate exercise that has many benefits.  It’s usually performed as a core exercise, however can also be used to strengthen the glutes and upper back muscles, as well as improve shoulder stability and range of motion.

One often overlooked benefit to this exercise is that it’s a safe and effective way to teach overall proprioception.  Proprioception is a fancy word for knowing where your body is in relation to your surroundings.  When individuals first start exercising their body is placed in positions that it’s not accustomed to being in, thus preventing them from getting the full benefit of the exercise.  By incorporating exercises like the bird dog it trains the brain to focus on things like stability and recruiting different muscle groups because of the limited base of support.  This can help improve your training and also help limit injuries.

This is especially true with the older population.  Having greater body awareness can help limit the amount of trips/falls so be sure to incorporate exercises like the bird dog and other exercises that challenge overall stability.

    Nothing like getting smoked by coach @sarahmenta as she’s teaching mid class to humble me a bit 😅

I’ve been getting so many messages about how F45 has changed people for the better. Becoming a part of this community has not only improved my strength, cardiac health, & agility- but also my durability & my confidence.

I’m a natural born introvert in a city where it feels like everybody is already friends, from childhood or from UConn or from both. F45 pulled me out of my shell & has not only made me a better athlete, but also connected me to amazing & like minded individuals through an undeniably amazing local ( @f45_training_stamfordharborpt ) and global community.     My two big priorities with food are sustainability and moderation. Dietary choices can play a role in our stress management, whether it's by providing our body with what it needs or if it’s part of the problem (not eating enough, not getting nutrients, blood sugar problems, etc.). One of the most important things to remember here is that you likely have different priorities than other people do when it comes to food, so the decisions you make about food may be different than others (and that’s okay!). Seriously, some of the best Italian food I’ve ever had - and I say that as someone who has had gnocchi as their “last meal” for as long as I can remember. Started with with some 💣 arancini balls & amazing @iggysbread_downunder garlic bread and I had the gnocchi Bianca (white “cheese” sauce, first pic)... insane tiramisu & Panna Cotta to tip us over the edge All 👏 Vegan 👏
We had the best time there the other night & I can’t wait to go back & do it all again 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹
