It's been around 6 months since I began my journey back into fitness. There were weeks of unchecked eating and drinking and truth be told I haven't been a 100% consistent.
🤞🏾🤞🏾🤞🏾
I  was never allowed to spend too much time preening and peering at myself as a child/teenage/young adult because only 'bad' girls worried about their appearance. So really, I  started noticing my body just a little before my kids and that was at the age of 33!
🤰I was in awe of my body when she carried 2 healthy babies to full term. 🤰I was in awe of my body when she was able to provide for my children. 🤰I was in awe of my body' s speedy post partum recovery.
🙏🏼🙏🏼
And yet today and everyday in fact, I look at her with judgemental eyes, unhappy eyes, your not good enough eyes, body image shaming eyes, comparing her to somebody else eyes.

If my body was a person and I was friends with her, I don't reckon I have been a good friend but she has been a wonderful friend to me. Because even after not giving her a 100% she has managed to loose 10 kilos in 6 months.

And so from today I promise you my body, I will try my best and I will consciously make an effort to treat you with respect and the dignity you deserve.

    Working out lifts me up but also brings me peace. ✌️ My mind is constantly running and it’s my way of clearing everything out so I can be a good mom and friend, etc. Heading into my gym to do a 2,000 row 😑 and not excited about it but I’m looking forward to that amazing feeling afterward! 🙌🏼 Did you get your Monday workout in? | Wearing my fave athletic brand @90degreebyreflex 🖤 #90degreebyreflex #ad #mondaymotivation #allblackeverything #healthyliving #newportbeach

    Food isn’t everything.

Health is not just about food, it’s the intersection of an entangled and complex web of factors.
Pull on any one threads and the whole web falls apart.

This is why, for example, you may have a little more wiggle room with what you can get away with eating while on vacation.

🔷 Community (tribal affiliations)
🔷 Stress reduction (decreased cortisol)
🔷 Time in nature (grounding, circadian rhythm regulation)
🔷 Sleep (cellular repair, detoxification support)
🔷 Sun exposure (vitamin D, structured water)

All these variables which engender health culminate to mitigate and potentially outweigh the detrimental effect of exposure to antigenic foods.

This is why, for example, you may be able to tolerate certain foods while on vacation but not at home.

I like to think of reactivity as a bucket. The more harmful exposures and damaging stimuli we encounter, the more full our bucket is, and the more likely it is that it spills over and elicits symptoms.

When our sleep is dialed in, when we feel loved, valued, and supported, when we are moving our bodies, when we are in contact with the earth and receiving the exposure of the sun’s rays, we are less likely to react negatively to potentially inflammatory foods.

This is one reason why, for example, I was able to tolerate so many other foods on my holidays that I would not normally concern including corn, gluten and grass-fed dairy.

In case you have lost sight of this critical fact, take my post running through your feed as your sign!! The goal should always be expansion of dietary diversity, NOT further dietary restriction.

The objective should always be quality of life.
The intention should always be to maximize time with the people we love.

Another important element we oftentimes neglect: sometimes the visceral pleasure and social bonding we receive from eating a “slightly” suboptimal food may outweigh the potential detriment incurred.

We all have hard no’s.
Where each of us draw that line is highly personal, for no one else to judge. ❤️
