- Ann, Regina and Deborah and Alfreda McCrary are the daughters of the Rev. Sam McCrary, who was the founder of the legendary a cappella gospel group The Fairfield Four. The sisters started out singing in Church and Gospel choirs from a young age and many videos can be found with a quick internet search.
Regina, Ann and Alfreda have each made solo albums, but, far more often, they& #039 ;ve put their vocal gifts to use in supporting roles. Most famously, a teenage Regina went from the mass choir to singing with a chart-topping #StevieWonder , then a born-again #BobDylan (she& #039 ;s on all three albums from that rather notorious period: Slow Train Coming, Saved and Shot of Love). Deborah, though, had all but left singing behind to focus on her nursing career. (Paragraph taken from www.nashvillescene.com)
Having toured and recorded with the likes of Bob Dylan #MikeFarris and #BuddyMiller (to name just three) they started getting asked what recordings of their own they had available after the shows.
This prompted the formation of #McCrarySisters and soon after saw the release of their debut album Our Journey which features a song co-written by Bob Dylan and Regina almost 20 years earlier.
Tune in to the #Connectionsradioshow show from 2am on Monday 19th Nov as we look into the careers of these fantastic singers playing songs from The McCrary Sisters releases and also recordings they have done with other artists as well as tunes with indirect #Connections .
Of course if you are not awake at 2am on a Monday morning you can listen back to the show on demand via the @pbsfm website www.pbsrm.org.au/connections
