    Yesterdays Squat session 355x4x8 @mammothtrainingcenter went well, legs are sore, I feel like I'm walking funny, I'm making grunting noises when I sit down, stand up and today's bench was not a good session. Was supposed to be the same weight as last week, but increase in reps. 280x4x8, but was only able to knock out 3-5 reps at a time. Ever had those nights where your mind just doesn't shut off??? Couldn't sleep last night, but hey elbow pain is to a minimum! Just looking at the bright side of things. Can't let one bad training session get to me. Now if they were all unsuccessful...I would probably just quit...change my name, run away and start a new life lol

    After our working sets, Pin Squats was our variation, also not my favorite of Squat variations. Did 5x3's. @areptile63 said they're fun...😑 Pin Squats help develop strength in the hole similar to a Pause Squat. It just takes out the slight chance of a stretch reflex you could get in a Pause Squat. So a dead stop..from the bottom, no bouncing off the pins/spotter arms. Do not lose contact with the barbell and do not relax at the bottom of the squat, keep your back and everything else tight just like you would when you regularly squat. I set the pins low enough just to break parallel.

    The MTC would like to wish Daniel well tomorrow as he lines up against some of the best marathoners our country has to offer. Daniel has done the work, paid the price and has the willingness to lay it all on the line. Here, Daniel is putting on the final touches of his taper down at the Campground. The #usatf marathon championships will again be hosted by the California International Marathon in Sacramento. Workout: 1 mile, 1 Km, 800m, 1 mile on a flat dirt loop. #mammothstrong #runcim

    During my warm-ups on bench, my left elbow flared up. More than likely some form of elbow tendonitis going on. Did all that I could for my working sets, got 2 of 5, failed the 3rd and called it quits on that. It was on fire and aching even just standing there spotting @areptile63 Had to wear my @stoicgear elbow sleeves even on my pause sets and every rep was not pleasant, but it helped lessen the intensity of the pain.

    After bench did a few sets of sub maximal chin-ups in between my incline barbell bench sets at 3-5reps. Read this from an article Mark Rippetoe posted about elbow tendonitis several years back and putting it to the test. Elbow feels significantly better...for now until next time I bench.
    Really don't want to start the road to poverty bench, so I will be more cautious about my elbow from here on out. May invest in a pair of voodoo floss/compression bands or freeze sleeves.

    Todays Deadlift session, 475 for three doubles, followed with four sets of three 2ct paused deadlift with roughly a 2ct decent. Tried a new variation and if you watch the 2nd and 3rd rep closely I start to shake a little, more in the 3rd than the 2nd. I've been following a program that I put together and I'm giving it a field test along with @areptile63 he opted to follow along with me. Goal of the program is Strength and Hypertrophy utilizing percentages (I still believe in some of the old school training styles), with linear progression, and variations. Today was week four day four. One more week and we go back to a little more volume!     This mornings bench variation after 4x6 was a 2-1-1 tempo taking 20% off from my working sets. I've been working tempo in my training recently for my squat, overhead press, and bench, have yet to try this in my deadlift training and honestly that just sounds miserable. Read an article on T-Nation by Mike Robertson about tempo training, so I'll share a little of this knowledge with you all. What I really liked the most from what I've read was the benefits of working tempo. "•Improved body awareness.
    •Improved control of lifts.
    •Development of connective tissue strength.
    •Improved stability.
    All strength/power athletes can benefit from slower TUT's that focus on the eccentric in the off-season as this will develop body control, connective tissue strength and, of course, hypertrophy.

    After a very rough and disappointing weekend for myself, I am ready and eager to get back to work. @nyrr gave me a great first experience at the #usatf5kchampionship , and many great things happened that weekend by many great athletes. If there’s anything I’ve learned from my running career, and especially training at altitude, it’s that positivity and consistency over a long period of time is crucial. To be brought low by a humbling experience is to be primed for growth. “One plus God is enough,” but one plus God and teammates is even better 🙏🏼

    Back in March of this year we celebrated the beginning of a new season for the @mammothcrib .
    In years past the Crib would typically close in November and reopen in March. We’re excited to keep the doors open all year long and can’t wait to see who comes up to train at high altitude this winter!

    My debut will be next Saturday, 11/3 at the USATF 5 km Championships in NYC! This Fall, though not yet finished, has been the most consistent (and warm) Autumn of training in a long time. Grateful to be given this important experience with the help of my coach and teammates at @mammothtc

    Yesterday was my second meet at the John Griffin Open. Entered a new weight class (75kg/165lbs) and took home the gold. I was nervous again, but not as much as my first powerlifting meet. I was more ready for my lifts than anything. Squat didn't go like I wanted it to. Didn't beat my previous meet PR, but I met it. 413lbs with squat...I need to revisit my squat. I went too low and when I drove up out of the hole I got stuck. Closed with 330lbs on bench, and beat my previous deadlift meet PR twice! Closed out with 524lbs on my deadlift, ripped part of my thumb open for it. That hook grip life. I definitely enjoyed my experience at this meet. Got to watch @austenhorton and @ggar84 on a few of their lifts since there was two different platforms going. I did get to watch Austen set a state record and watched Gabe close out on his deadlift at 574lbs and still made that look easy. Will post videos later. It was also nice to see @drericshay and his wife again. Lastly got to warm up with a number of people in my weight class. All cool people just there to do one thing. Give their best performance on the platform.
