2 hours later, I was still standing at attention. Looking out the window. Not moving.
•
Didn’t matter. Just having a pulse was enough to get you sent to the “air chair”. Back against the wall, sitting position. You held it til the next guy at the window twitched. Then it was his turn in the air chair. Your turn to go back to “birdwatching”.
•
Welcome to Naval Special Warfare bootcamp. I was 3 days, 7 minutes into my official journey to become a US Navy SEAL. I could strip my rack in less than 90 seconds. I could spot a loose thread on my uniform from 50 yards.
•
And I was desperately homesick.
•
It wasn’t that bootcamp was so hard. Not compared to Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training that came later. Not even compared to the stair climbs or beach runs I’d put myself through to get here.
•
But now, I was on my own. No fan club. No homemade biscuits after my 9 mile run. No late night video games.
•
Just insults and orders, 24/7.
•
Standing at attention for the 3rd hour, I thought about something my mom said when I left for bootcamp.
•
Remember: you can’t get anywhere without taking the 1st step.
•
Takeaway: It's good we can't see the hardships that lie ahead of us. But we can look back and appreciate the willingness of our younger selves to dive headlong into that unknown.

I’m really scared of heights but I still jump. I learned how to stay calm and focus at the on task at hand. Fighting my natural instincts to take over is what may save me when shit gets crazy. #USAF #CCT #SOF #sofrep #Badnews #badnewsmatthews

The church of St Mary Magdalen, Battlefield, near Shrewsbury, was founded as a chantry for those killed in the eponymous battle of Shrewsbury in 1403. Three years later, Henry IV granted Richard Hussey the right to alienate two acres of land to Roger Ive, a priest who probably conceived the whole initiative. In 1410, it was refounded as a collegiate church under the patronage of the king, which was to have five chaplains praying for the souls of Henry IV, Richard Hussey and his wife, and all those slain in the battle. It was naturally dissolved in 1548 under the Chantries Act, and the building became the parish church of Albright Hussey, but eventually fell into decay and was subject to multiple restorations, the most significant being in 1860-2, leaving us with what we see today. It is now under the care of the @thechurchesconservationtrust. 👑👑👑

We’re counting down until our very special exhibition at the @nzportraitgallery in Wellington (May 30-June 16). Cambodia Rising: A blueprint for generational change is a series of raw and stunning images that capture more than a decade of progress we’ve made in breaking the devastating cycle of poverty in Cambodia through education (alongside @moeyscambodia).
Taken by our brilliant photographer Stacey Simpkin, we can’t wait to share these incredible images.⠀

    Olha a vista!
...
Hoje o dia foi intenso, mas produtivo.
...

Don't just do things because it is what others expect of you. Do it because you expect it from yourself.
.
.
This is the 1 mile gerry can carry event. Each can weighs about 40 lbs, and it is an individual event that usually happens after you have already been through tons or rucking, drops, swimming, running and whatever else the Cadre can throw at you.
.
.
We set a goal time of one hour (it should not take that long). The students are also allowed to put down the gerry cans any time they want.
.
.
The last person done usually takes up the whole hour, setting down the cans every other step
.
.
The first person usually is done within 25 minutes then goes back to help their teammates. Not because anyone asked them to, in fact we always offer up the option to sit out the next event. They still want to go back and help thier teammates.
.
.
This is what it is all about, show up prepared and strong enough to do what is expected of you as well as what you expect from yourself.
