Boston Marathon 2019.
.
.
Coming to the Mecca of marathon running for me was the result of countless hours of training, hundreds of miles eating up pavement, and a tragic amount of time spent in lycra. It's been a long slog, and the race itself was hard going. But the Boston support was next level. 26.2 miles of lines of people, screaming, cheering, handing out kisses and jets literally flying over head. Its undoubtedly the best race experience I've ever had, and reminded why I run - for those moments.
.
.
The course was more brutal than I imagined, and I was miles off my PB, but pretty overwhelmed to say I completed the holy grail of marathons in 03:16:00.
.
A huge thanks to @riak.fitness for his coaching - your unwavering encouragement and wisdom has excelled my training, and I'm buzzing for the rest of the race season. Also to the VDBK family, who constantly tolerate and support all my races - you're the best family I could ask for. Finally @oliver.simper84 and @sammydartnall - you flew from Canada just to watch me run around in a circle, and made the best support sign I could want - it's pretty awesome having friends like you.
.
Boston, you swallowed me whole, chewed me up, and spat me out again - but you were the best damn race I've ever had.
.

Boston Marathon 2019 is done! And I have soaked up every single morsel of this experience. Here are some highlights:
* Girls-trip!! The drive to SF and the shenanigans at the airport. * The lovely lofts we stayed at in the ❤️ of Boston. Thank you hosts! (And Mofomo for hooking that up)
* The Expo which was buzzing with excitement and tons of vendors which now have all our 💰.
* The Blessing of the Runners. * Our “shake it out run” on the Charles. * Catching up with my old college pal @slou_8 after 17 years!
* Meeting Barbara from Vermont on the bus to the start. I could have talked to her all day about her 19 Boston marathons.
* RUNNING THE ACTUAL FREAKIN’ BOSTON MARATHON! * The amazing crowd. It’s like they carry you along from town to town. I was blown away. There is nothing like it.
* Seeing Sabrina and Isaiah at the half way mark for a high-five and a selfie! * Crossing the finish hand in hand with @lisamagley and @sickleheathervan * Dropping in to Crossfit New England the next day for a workout lead by @cfne owner, @benbergeron who’s podcast (Chasing Excellence) I listen to weekly! And chatting with @heatherkbergeron and all the CFNE folks. Such an awesome community.
* Our random tour of Wellesley.
* Our last night out.
We did it! We ran it! It was hard to get here and as always, hard to run 26.2 mile. We did it in rain and sun and heat and cold. We did it together just like we said we would. And I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I dedicated my hardest miles (14-20...Randomly) to my client Noie who fights a daily battle with ALS. She was thinking of me during my race, cheering me on. And I was trying to channel her strength and perseverance.
It’s hard not to get choked up in this event. It’s loaded with emotion. We all have our personal stories of how we got here. And then Boston has its story too. It was such an honor to be a part of it. #BostonStrong #bostonmarathon2019

    Boston Stand Up!

    Boston Stand Up!

    14 1 17 April, 2019
Time : 3.37.41
Boston marathon finisher for the second time! Really I hadn’t goal or explanation for this race. I ran first half for 1.37 and then I was feeling incredibly tired. It was a really tough race for me. Big thanks everyone who watched online - you are my power!
A huge thanks to all spectators for your emotions and support, you helped me keep moving forward... It was amazing experience and I’m happy I got cross the finish line.

Well Boston you did it again.
💙💛🦄
Although this was probably my worst marathon performance to date due to a combination of sub par training, race day stomach troubles, and bizarre weather fluctuations, it was a truly memorable experience.

The Boston community is unparalleled in its enthusiasm over marathon weekend. The crowds were ON FIRE 🔥 and despite my agony it was impossible to feel defeated.
And while I wish we both could’ve had better races, it was truly special sharing the last 5 slow, painful miles with @lauren.duffy_ . There’s no one I would rather have run through that pain with ❤️ Until next time Boston ✌🏼💙

It was a full weekend of racing for @jimmiejohnson , 7x NASCAR Champion, starting out with a NASCAR race in Virginia, and less than 48hrs later lining up for the Boston Marathon, his first marathon ever.
💚🧡
Sticking to his fueling plan both in the racecar 🏎 and every step of the way along the Boston course 👟, Jimmie ran himself into qualifying for Boston 2020 with a time of 3:09:07. 🏁Click the link in our bio to watch his story unfold 👆#gatoradeendurance #formulatedforfarther #bostonmarathon #boston2019

I AM A BOSTON FINISHER 2019!👊🏻🦄🇺🇸🏃🏼‍♀️

The iconic Citgo sign at Mile 25, just over a mile from the finish and I’m barely holding on. Boston, you are one tough MF. Unexpected heat and humidity tipped me over the edge and it was clear at the half-way mark that this wasn’t going to be a PR. At this point I stopped staring at my watch and instead looked at the crowds. More than once I was overwhelmed by emotion and had to hold back tears. Turning right on Hereford and left on Boylston is a moment I’ll never forget. Huge thanks to the family and friends that supported me throughout training (i.e listened to me complain about a hip injury for the last 3 months) and to those on the sidelines cheering me on, you got me through to that finish. Yesterday proved to me that the Boston Marathon is so much more than a race. It’s our day. It’s our city. And we’re freakin #bostonstrong

Boston, it's been a slice. You sure know how to make a guy feel like a rockstar. It was an incredible experience, and not one I'll ever forget.
Thanks to @leftymom56 for her incredible hospitality and kindness, to all the friends and family who sent their love and encouragement, to the thousands of fans and volunteers who make this weekend such a wild and unifying celebration, and of course to my mom and Peter who flew all the way across the dang country to share in the magic 🦄🦄🦄
(Also thanks to @scottjurek for being so kind and approachable to a starstruck fan 🤩)

It’s not always pretty (hence the picture of me crying of pain, frustration and disappointment) and no matter how much training you put in, come Marathon day anything can happen! Some marathons will be perfect and some will test your mind, body and Soul..Boston Marathon was that marathon for me and after many many tears I have come to realize how fortunate and grateful I am to have been able to finish the dream race of every runner!💙💛Shouldn’t let this bad time define me!!
⬇️ Got me through the hardest 26.2 miles!Thank you to everyone who got me to that finish line.. didn’t do it alone!❤️
•”You can do it amiga!!! I love you! You’re already a badass for being here!!!!”
•”you got this keep going ): don’t worry JUST FINISH ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️”
•”You can do this!!!!”
•”RUN WALK CRAWL STOP BUT U BETTER FN FINISH AND CROSS THE FINISH LINE AND GET THAT MEDAL”
•”Please PLEASE tell Alma I am still in awe of her perseverance!! Fight on!!! There is never going to be a clock/time that will define her FIRST BOSTON MARATHON! ❤️😘”
•”YOU ARE ALMOST THERE ALMA!! BRING IT HOME”
•”I was tracking you the whole way and know this was one of the toughest ones for you...BUT you finished strong and did it Alma. If you're not...you should be VERY proud of yourself, I am!!”

It’s really quite hard to put into words how running the Boston Marathon affected me, but if I had to, I would say it was one of the most magical moments I have ever experienced.
- - -
To say we were supported would be an understatement. Better suited, would be to say we were guided through this journey with encouragement, inspiration, and a lot of love. In training, with fundraising, and of course during the race itself (don’t even get me started on that - wow!). I didn’t know it was possible for an entire city to care so much about 30,000+ people they didn’t know, but Boston proved that possible - 4/15/19.
- - -
This was not an easy “yes” for me, but when @Kathleentullie asked, there wasn’t a chance I could say no (even though it took a few days to respond 🙄). Because of Kathleen’s ask, I learned a few things:
•The volunteers and supporters made me cry. Wow, you guys!❤️
•I can run over 136 miles in ~9-weeks
•It’s silly to run 18 miles with no fuel or water (that was a mistake)
•Before a 10-miler, I did “Amanda” (snatches and muscle-ups) and ate 2 honey-dipped @kanes_donuts
•I ran 26.2 miles in 4:16:43 in my 40th year on earth
•(Icyhot saved me)
- - -
I cannot thank you all enough for your generous donations (aka putting up with me asking for a $1), checking in on us all (and my bum knee), and just generally giving a shit! You guys are absolutely incredible and it meant the world to myself, my teammates (@conortmurphy @amalleolo @spencer_hendel @kconn1122 - who were incredible!💙), and the @boks organization.
- - -
I really could go on, but I’ll leave you with this - if you ever get the opportunity to run the Boston Marathon, please say yes! Be a part of history. No matter if you run, jog, walk, wheel or crawl...it will change your life. Be a unicorn! #BostonStrong ✊🏽
- - -
We are currently at $7989 and still on the pursuit for $10k until they shut down the site. I will keep the link up in my bio if anyone can spare a little change. To those that already donated THANK YOU AGAIN!
- - -
I love you all. I love you, Boston! @bostonmarathon @reebok @bokskids
- - -
And @ashgag - my entire heart! Thank you for being my rock through thick and thin. I love you, babe! 🥰

I cannot thank you all enough for your generous donations (aka putting up with me asking for a $1), checking in on us all (and my bum knee), and just generally giving a shit! You guys are absolutely incredible and it meant the world to myself, my teammates (@conortmurphy @amalleolo @spencer_hendel @kconn1122 - who were incredible!💙), and the @boks organization.

I really could go on, but I’ll leave you with this - if you ever get the opportunity to run the Boston Marathon, please say yes! Be a part of history. No matter if you run, jog, walk, wheel or crawl...it will change your life. Be a unicorn! #BostonStrong ✊🏽

We are currently at $7989 and still on the pursuit for $10k until they shut down the site. I will keep the link up in my bio if anyone can spare a little change. To those that already donated THANK YOU AGAIN!

The Boston Marathon was way bigger than I ever could have imagined. I was all smiles for at least 11 miles, high fiving as many people as I could and taking it all in. It hurt a lot and I had to try hard. They made us walk another mile AFTER the finish line to go get family and stuff and by the time I finally got to them all I could do was cry. Happy tears for the experience, sad tears for the pain, happy tears to see the man I love most and how happy he was for me. I loved this experience. I still can't believe how much the Boston community rallies and supports this race. They love it and the people here are so friendly.
If I ever come back I'm going to give this race the training dedication it deserves. I am now on the Boston marathon bandwagon. This weekend is incredible. .

Sometimes you PR. And other times you pass out at mile 20 and end up with an IV in a med tent 🤷🏻‍♀️ It may have been my slowest marathon, but those last 6 miles were so full of energy- how can you not smile?! I got to hug every friend, pet every dog and cross the finish line holding hands with the best running partner out there @ksmith_1o6 Boston 2019 was a race for the books 💛💙🦄

Thunderstorms, heat & humidity, too much sun, a trip to the med tent, cold rain & wind, awesome friends and family, a video from @higgins.ben the Bachelor (swipe), a few cut outs of my head later... and I have finished my first Boston Marathon! WHAT. A. DAY! Thank you to everyone near and far for everything! #boston2019 #bostonstrong 💛🏃🏻‍♀️💙🎉
